The Trojan Horse

......... in 1972, Kevin Doheny and Larry Fullerton showed up at the NHRA World Finals in Amarillo, Texas with a drop dead gorgeous Mustang Funny Car .......... this was the first time the car had been run outside of southern California ........... true to the "Trojan Horse" legend, they pulled the car on an open trailer behind an old Ford pickup .............. only the SoCal regulars knew the ruse ........... for Kevin Doheny came from the Doheny oil family after whom Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills was named and Larry Fullerton was the nephew of Dale Drake of Meyer-Drake-Offenhauser fame ........... this was a well funded team in disguise .......... the thing that should have been a dead giveaway was the stunning mural of the horse being pulled into the flaming city of Troy by noted funny car painter Kenny Youngblood which adorned the rear window area (big bucks) ................. the car was the class of the field and wound up winning the 1972 NHRA Funny Car World Championship :lol: :lol: :lol:

We're about 175 miles or so from Waynesville ............ I live in High Point .............. but I'll also use anything as an excuse to get to the mountains up in the Asheville area ........... it takes us about three hours to get there
