This won't be a 10 page blog but I thought I would jot down a few thoughts about this year's NNL East.
First off the new venue for the show was great. The larger display area made for more and less crowded tables. You could actually take a step back from the table and not bump into people from the next row of tables. Getting around the display tables was much easier also. The two vendor areas was also better. Many vendors put items under their tables and you just could not bend over or squat down without getting knocked over. This year it was much better. Also there was a decent variety of food. Apparently I ate the last of everything....Sorry Gary .
We took a first time contest goer this year. David is an avid truck builder and a lover of all things trucks and specifically Macks. Wow. Talk about your kid in a candy store! He out spent us all. He met a vendor for the first time that he has been doing business with for a few years. That vendor has a new best friend..lol. David was stoked the entire trip. Unfortunately for David, all other shows will probably pale in comparison to the NNL.
For Gary, what can I say. He not only accomplished his goal of winning the Beetle-mania class but he won Best of Show . Well deserved I might add. I am glad that he shared the progress of the build on this board. You can look at the model all you want, but unless you have Gary telling you about it I guarantee you will miss things. There is that much detail and craftsmanship to it.
For me, I got to spend time with some good friends, Gary, Chip, Jeff, George , David and Judy. Judy?? It's a long story. We spent about 14 hours together in the van and no punches were thrown and no gas was passed . I got to see some beautiful models. I got to put some faces with names. I met VW Dave and MR. BIGGS. Both men had some really cool models. I got to talk to a few builders of some great looking race cars. I had a blast watching David running around looking at all the truck models and talking to the truckies, (is that a word ). I got to eat at Perkins ;D. I wish the board Mod., Bobby could have made it but it sounds like he kicked butt down at KVSM. Way to go Bobby! Several of our club members got their models selected for pics in one or both magazines. Good for you Gary, David and Brian. Brian couldn't make it but I took a few of his models to display.
That is just a few of my thoughts about the weekend. I'm looking forward to NNL East 2009. For that show I'm not going to help Gary with his model, he'll have to do all the work himself....lol...
