Well, I started on the next one tonight. It's the old Monogram Kurtis Kraft Indy roadster. Neat looking, and very basic, kit. Mine was part of a double set with the Edmonds modified. Planning on making it a box stock build, just to take a break. That, and the fact that this kit would need a lot of scratch work to be accurate! And I thought it would be cool to have a real old school build on my shelf. No camera here at work, so I'll have to post some pics later on.

Well, no progress to report. Wheel/tire halves are glued together, as are the motor halves. Not much to this one, at all. Between finishing the Chevell, and getting ready for Cookeville this weekend I decided to take the last few days off from building. I'm sure I'll have a bunch more energy after the show!

Ok, I FINALLY got some pics of this one! Got the body halves together and the tires are ready for paint: Going to shoot the wheel/tire assemblies semi gloss black, then lightly sand the tread area to see if that gives the effect I want. Then paint the wheel centers. Here is an early mock-up:

Gee....thats taking redline tires to the extreme, isn't it? J/K!!! This is really gonna be cool....sounds like your tire painting idea might work, or if not, you could spray the tread area with grey then tape it up and spray the sidewalls flat black. Very interesting subject here.

Got a little more done to this one: Messed up one of the rear wheels, so had to redo the black. Will repaint the silver tomorrow, and paint the backs of the wheels. Also filled in the seam, and most of the waviness on the bottom: Had to use flat black, all I had at the time. Hope to wetsand and shoot some primer tomorrow, and definitely retake the last photo! Overall this is a fun little kit to work with, and am seriously considering another to try some detail work on. Thanks for looking!

Lookin' cool Sully. Did you just detail the grill or is that some kind of photo-etch piece? Looks good.

Thanks Will. That is Bare Metal Foil on the grill, with a sort of black wash. I coldn't get it to form around the grill bars without splitting, so I slit in between them and burnished it down. Followed that with some thinned acrylic black. When that was dry, or at least mostly dry, I hit the tops of the bars with a toothpick to rub the paint off. Not great, but not too bad. Especially since I am still trying learn the ropes of doing washes.

I've been watching this build and haven't chimed in till now, but I just have to.
I've got a quite a few of these type of old kits sitting around, plastic tires, not much detail, real old school if you know what I'm talking about. By todays standards these kits, ..... well they just suck!
But check out how this build is going. Beautiful! This will be a very unique addition to any model collection, and a stand-out on the contest table.
Don't ever rule out that 30+ year old kit, or starting off a detailed project with a snap-tite kit.
Excellent work indeed! ;D
Now does the hood get painted or is this just another Nacho Z thing going on?

HAHA Gary! Yeah, it gets painted. Reshot it yesterday as a matter of fact. I burned thru in several spots, and noticed that I had not sanded the primer very well, so I had stripped it all. Have gotten a bunch more done to it, so it should be done sometime next week. And thanks for the comments. I have never built one this old, and thought it would be fun. And it has been. Not worrying about details, exact paint colors, sourcing more accurate parts, just building for the enjoyment of it. That's not to say I am not considering another, just to see what I can do with it!
