I got started on another dirt track project.....a mid-80s Cutlass that ran in the upper midwest..... Since its about the closest thing to a Cutlass, I'm using a Monogram Buick Grand National kit......

The first thing I did was get rid of the hood bulge. The underside was filled in with baking soda and superglue, then I started grinding away until the bulge was gone... After a few light coats of putty and some block sanding, we have a flat hood...

The interior was "stripped down" with styrene sheet and grinding with a dremel. Still need to make a face for the dash mounted tach... I haven't decided whether to build this one curbside or not....I'm trying to do some research about what engine this car ran. More to come....

Looking good Tommy you keep building dirt track cars maybe I start mind. Do it do it do it!!! Lol. There's a bunch of them I've been wanting to build for YEARS, including my own personal '56 Chevy that I raced in the 70s, but didn't build anything because of the decals....nothing even close was available, and hand lettering just doesn't look that great on a model. Recently, I learned how to design my own decals, and I have a contact with an Alps printer, so here we go!!! I got a LOT of building to do!

Latest update on this one. Guys, I kept looking at the pics I posted, and I just wasn't happy with the interior. The transmission tunnel looked awful, and the dash just didn't look very "race car-ish", so I decided to redo it. Did some more grinding and puttying to smooth out the trans tunnel, and opened up the A/C vents in the dash. Also added some holes here and these to give it a more "stripped" look.... And the end result I'm much more happy with.....

I used a Pro-Tech seat belt kit. the rest of the interior bits came from the parts box.... Wedding veil was used to make the "chicken wire" windshield screen..... So, with the interior done, I'm moving to the chassis. These type cars usually have the gas tank removed and a small fuel cell mounted inside the trunk, so I cut the gas tank away and filled the hole with styrene.... Stay tuned, more to come!!

Next was paint.....I was a little unsure about how to do the stripes. I finally decided to paint the side yellow, masked off the yellow stripe, painted the red, masked off the red stripe, then laid down the blue. I wasn't going for a super smooth finish, the real car was painted with a brush! Lol. I guess it came out ok.....not the best, but ok for an old dirt track car.

Next was the self designed decals. Let me tell ya, trying to recreate sloppy, amatuer graphics is MUCH more difficult than recreating a professional lettering job....everything must be drawn out by hand, but I wanted it to match the real car as close as possible. Next, it'll be final assembly and all the small details, and then we can call it finished.
