Considering that I now have a greatly reduced building area to work in, I've completed zero builds in the last year, and I've been rehabiliting from a stroke last year, attempting an all-out detailed scratch/bash build just hasn't worked out very well! So- I'm going back to basics for now, at least until I get my feet wet again~ Later on, perhaps I can muster the gonads to start a really detailed car. Heck, my hands and eyes don't work well enough together yet!
For now, I'm gonna complete (yes- complete!) this '06 camaro that I'm twisting into some kinda badazz pro mod pavement pounder I have visualized. This is the beginning of the scratchbuilt tube chassis, and I'll update it as I get it closer to complete. It's my first attempt at a full bodied race car chassis build, and fashioning it to fit the body perfectly was a challenge at first. I found it most effective to turn the body upside down and build the chassis into the car. So far, so good I guess. My original plans were to open it up all the way (opening doors, lift-off front nose, etc.) and build a super detailed racecar, but gotta put that on the back burner for a short while...at least until I get comfortable with building again eh? I DO plan on spending a little time with the driver compartment though~ he-he-he! About all I'm doing structure-wise is offering a peek at the engine and compartment with a lift-off hood. I know- kinda boring, but for me right now, it's a good start.
Anyway, before we ge a medium sized novel going here, I hope you enjoy this endeavor, and as usual- any questions or comments are always more than welcome friends! Thanks very much for peeking.
Saturday, Jan 14th Update-
Finally got the body mods done and have the body in primer. The only mods I did on the body were:
1-filled all the body panel seam lines to give it a "one piece" look
2- cut the bottom of body from rear to nose to drop the front end down nice n' low
3-scratch built from sheet styrene the massive "outlaw" hood scoop and fused it onto the kit hood
4-fashioned this integrated rear wing.
I'm also pretty happy with the way the stance ended up. Always liked that "low and mean" look and I think I got it.
The colorcoat I'm using is a pure black ureathane that a friend of mine who works at a body shop mixed for me. I like these ureathanes as well as lacquers for the simple fact that they are so user friendly, it lays on very thin, and it dries in a flash. We also added a fair amount of rainbow ultra-mini flake to it instead of incorporating it into the clears/intercoats. I'm planning to lay on a few coats of a transparent red kandy to get this "black cherry" color I have in mind- not real sure how it'll turn out but here we go anyway!
Want to get this body complete so it can have a couple weeks to sit and gas out....first things first eh? Once I get some color laid on (soon I hope) I'll post an update or two. Thanks for taking a look guys and as usual, any comments or suggestions are very much appreciated!
Gonna actually have some available time these coming few weeks to get something done, so I'll keep the updates coming! Thanks again guys for taking a minute to peek at my build.
