so why did you give up that ride??? adam A couple of reasons Adam .......... by 1979 the cost of running a competition eliminator car was beginning to get out of hand ........... the other reason was that I got married and started a family, a total priority shift

A couple of reasons Adam .......... by 1979 the cost of running a competition eliminator car was beginning to get out of hand ........... the other reason was that I got married and started a family, a total priority shift you should see what that budget looks like now.....BIG $$$$$ comp, super stock, and stock are my favorite classes.....true sportsman fan.....adam I'm with you Adam ........ I still love to watch the sportsmen classes ........... especially Comp (gee, go figure) ........ to me, those are the classes that define what drag racing is all about ..... those are the classes that are the mainstay and history of the sport The only things I don't care for are the competition index in comp and the breakout rules in stock and super stock ............. back in the "old days" we raced off the national records .......... for instance, If I was in my altered and racing a D/D in the other lane, the spot he would get on me woud be the difference between the A/A and D/D national records ............ if you could run faster than the national record, so be it ............ run faster twice (within 1% for a backup) and you'd reset your class national record .............. it basically assured that the better running of the two cars could win (provided the driver didn't screw up) ........... there was none of this "tiptoeing" at the first mph light (we had two of them back in prehistoric times) ............ it was foot to the floor for 1320 ft

i understand what you are saying.....but the fact of the matter is, if it was kept that way (running off records) then im pretty sure that those classes would be extinct. reason being, speed is money, how fast do you wanna go? meaning that all the big money hitters would win everything, no one else has a chance......when thats the case, alot of people lose interest....i think that stock and super stock should qualify under national records just because it would mean more to have it painted on the side of the car like it used to be......i think they should leave comp well enough alone, except for the super modfied classes where the guys jump all over the place for the softer index.....there should be a limit on how many times you can classify your car....because they clearly have the advantage. but i think Bo Butner's car is prolly the baddest car out there right now, BAR NONE! adam
