March 7, 1965 By using a very uncharacteristic driving style the Ronda Roadrunner finally beat the slick dirt at Richmond. Acording to the normally hard charging Johnson,"Today I decided to take it easy and see if I couldn't win a race on this track. He said, "Here in past races, I've run hard and run myself out of car". And anyone who had watched Johnson race at this track from his debut in 1955 could attest to the fact that he knew a little something about running hard. This was his first win at the track and his first finish of the '65 season. To anyone who thinks Junior has gone soft, the last car still running at the checkers was in 13th place but was 104 laps down in the 250 lap race.
