I was just wondering how you guys did your weathering. I need to add some new detail to my models, and weathering seems like it would help.
TIA, Stephen

The word 'weathering' covers a lot of different stuff, and lots of builders use many different methods.....are you looking to make a model look mildly faded/neglected, wrinkled and dented, or completely rusted out?
I'll do what I can to help, as long as I know where you want to go. Check out my Fotki albums** to see some that I've done, and I can answer any questions you might have.

I'm willing to take any advice you're willing to give, Dave. I think, for now anyway, I just want to learn how to do a light weathering. A little rust, faded paint...stuff like that.

Weathering can be done in many ways, and I'll be glad to pass along any bits of info you can use; the stuff I do is not withcraft or rocket science, and I enjoy sharing whatever I can.
Minor rust(no holes) can be done by drybrushing with rust and other colors of paint; you can also thin and either 'stipple' with a brush or use a sponge to apply the 2-part 'Instant Rust' that I've taken a liking to.
Faded paint can be handled very easily as well. I'd say start with a base color of either gray or red primer, apply your top color of choice, then wet sand the top color after it has cured. The base color will begin to show through in many areas, and you can seal it all in with DullCote afterwards.

Thanks Dave! I'll hopefully be startin my next build soon, so I'll try some of your suggestions.
BTW, where do you get that "Instant Rust" stuff? I've seen some builds that look great with that on it.

where do you get that "Instant Rust" stuff? I've seen some builds that look great with that on it. I get it at my local Michael's craft store**, and usually every other Sunday there's a Michael's flyer in my newspaper with a 40 or 50% off coupon in it. You can buy the 2-bottle kit, but you might find the larger individual bottles are a better value. **the last time I got the 2-bottle Instant Rust kit, the hanging card it came in looked like this:
