I bought this kit with the intention of building a replica of a mates pathy, however this was/is going to be a heavily modified version of his vehicle. I came accross two problems as soon as i bought the kit; 1: it's a 4 door '92 model (his is a 2 door '88 model), and 2: it's LHD, being an Aussie, i need this to be RHD so i've arranged to swap dash boards and wipers with a guy in the US who's got a RHD dash and needs a LHD one.
The body wasnt as much of a problem as i though it would be, i removed the C Pillar and inserted a 4mm wide section of evergreen strip diagonally behind the front doors, i then inserted a thin strip (1.5 - 2 mm) horizontally behind this to give the different window heights. I filled the door panels in at this stage too. i have also increased the diameter of all four wheel arches by around 1.5 mm both in front and behind the wheel to allow the larger tyres to fit correctly without fouling the body work (this was done before glueing the flared guards so they are covering the cut's)
Standard kit (1992 model Terrano)
Current (1988 model Pathfinder)
My mates Pathy has lost both of the vents between the bonnet and front window, so for a giggle, i did that too and inserted a section of brass channel underneith the gaps.
(yes, i've since cleaned up the body work and re-primed the front end)
I have also purchased the Toyota 4 Runner High Rider kit, i have used all of the high rider parts from this and have converted them to fit the pathy, the result is a pretty nice 8" lift (8mm in this scale). I have also taken the painstakingly slow and tricky process of removing the entire chassis from the underside bodypanel and 'lifted' it by 1.5mm (1.5" in 1:1).
Finally, as it sit's now, all primed and waiting for painting, (i have assembled the basic interior due to it being a basic colour which i'm going to add flocking to)
