This build seens like it went on & on & on. First let me say that S.A.R. stands for Short Australian Right-hand drive. This truck has none of that--I kept the frame long, steering on left side, 60" sleeper, & V-8 cat diesel.
So this is more like a PHANTOM version of a SAR. It consist of Revells W-900 ( frame, engine, cab, sleeper, bull bar ) and Kit Form Services SAR resin conversion ( hood, 1/2 fenders, extention pieces, battery boxes ) Using the instructions from both kits, I pieced everything together, with the exception of cutting the frame & swapping steering. I hinged the bull bar so the hood would open. Under the sleeper is a cargo net ( made from a wool sock ) filled with odds & ends. Straw flex elbows are used to make the bend on the exhaust pipes, and cut aluminum for stacks. Made extentions for air intake and mounted mirrors on them. Fuel tanks were found in parts box ( I'm telling u it's a big box )The normal wiring, plumbing, & weathering finishes this end. The company logo is a real petroleum carrier in the Italy area. Was there with my Uncle Sam USN, thought their trucks was neat looking, and thought I would use it on this truck. I drew it out, copyed it on to 1 sided sticky paper, color it, & cut it out.
Both tankers are almost identical. They are Italeri kits, one I purchased the other was given to me due to damage and missing parts. They were build per instructions with only wiring, DOT stickers & logo's, weathering & a bumper for tamdem hook-up added.
The tri-axle dolly was scratch-built using parts from Spaulding Trading & shipping ( tri leaf suppension & axles, spider rims, metal rib fenders ) and the normal complement of wiring, DOT tape, & weathering.
When all hooked together, it measures 52" in lenght.
