Saved from the trash, here is my Revell-based Beetle 'VolksRod.' I had a lot of fun building this one. public.fotki.com/VWDave/my_model_cars/volksrod/A friend had started and not finished a chop on this little puppy, and lost interest in it. I finished the roof job, widened the kit's fenders, and primed it....then it sat in a box for a few more years. Before too long the VolksRod bug(pun intended) bit me hard, and the modded fenders were given the axe. An AMT Ala Kart gave up its wheels & tires, and an old built-up Monogram T-bucket donated a lot of the front suspension parts. A Gunze '56 Beetle rear window section was grafted into the roof, and my own epoxy-cast engne lid sits below it. I also copied a split Beetle dash from a resin Hebmüller by ScaleKraft. A Revell gasser Anglia kit is minus a pair of headlights now, thanks to this little car.

Slick VROD Dave. Several years ago a company actually offered a conversion to put a straight axle under the front of a bug. One Cool Build. RonR

How bout some more pics, hoss? Ask and ye shall receive: public.fotki.com/vwdave/my_model_cars/volksrod/awbcrazy - The main kit was the Revell Beetle(the ugly pink one). The wheels & tires came from the reissued AMT 'Ala Kart;' the chrome was stripped & sprayed yellow, and the whole assemblies were mildly weathered. The front leaf spring is from the Monogram T bucket kit, and the axle beam is actually from the trailer in the same T bucket kit(the T's axle was too wide). The headlights came from a Revell Anglia gasser, and the iron cross taillights started out as air cleaners on WCC chopper toys.

Thanks, Doug. I picked up the mag at my LHS to check it out last week, and spotted the pic after getting it home...a very nice surprise indeed.
