This car qualified 15th at 151.400 for tha 1964 Indy as an unsponsored entry. Car waz owned by Ebb Rose and wrenched by Herb Porter. After tha 2nd week of qualifying, tha 2 Bardahl cars failed to qualify, so a deal waz reached to sponsor this racer. It waz repainted from Fontana Rose and Black into Bardahl Yellow. Eddie Sachs, starting on tha 6th row, passed Rutherford on tha 1st lap and Rutherford tucked in behind him. On tha 2nd lap, Dave McDonald, driving Mickey Thompson's "funny car" charged past both of them between turn 1 and turn 2. Exiting turn four Dave lost control, spun into tha inside wall and bounced into tha path of tha oncoming cars. Although Rutherford stood on tha brakes he could not avoid tha melee, His car went beneath one wrecked car, over a second before being hit by a third. But he kept going, in turn 2 another driver gestured that he should pull off of tha track....he did and then found out his fuel tank had been ruptured. Tha race waz Red-Flagged, Sachs and McDonald were dead and A.J. Foyt won tha race. Model iz by Carousel 1, #4407 Just a wee bit miffed by tha exhaust pipe, I should fix it, I reckon. Thought that yall might like to see what Dave McDonald waz driving in tha 1964 Indy 500. This iz tha car that started that wreckord. This iz tha Mickey Thompson-built DOHC Ford entry that qualified 14th.
