interior/seats

hey there all you wild & crazy builders! Starting the interior of a build I've got going on and between you and me- I usually do nostalgic drag cars where interiors are never really an issue! What can I use to make seats look like cloth or fabric? Anyone.....Anyone??

Hey, Kevin. I've heard of a lot of people using stuff like this.

I've never used it, but I've heard a lot of good about it. I'm sure you could get it at Wal-Mart or a craft store of some sort. Hope this helps.

Two things come to mind right off the bat. 1 - Flocking...several different sources and easy to use. 2 - Faux Fabrix...never used it before so can't comment about it. Here's the link...

Unless you're doing a lowrider or some other heavily-upholstered vehicle, flocking might be too heavy for seats IMO; I reserve that for carpeted floors and kick panels.

I've had great results with the SM 'Faux Fabric' and the Krylon 'Make It Suede' textured paints, although the Krylon is sold locally....it's as close as my local Michael's store, and they make it an even greater value when they put out 40-50% off coupons in almost every Sunday paper.

This interior was done in Krylon paint and Detail Master flocking:

I've heard of some that use a mixture of white glue and water to attach tissue paper to the seats. When dry, it can be torn in places to look like ripped cloth. I've never tried it, though.

Really appreciate the input guys! Undertaking a 12th scale 57 chevy and plan on going with a "streetable" version, so gotta make that interior outta something other than tin & aluminum! thanks again

I have used the Krylon "MAKE IT SUEDE", with pretty good results. The larger can allows many projects to come from it.
