Hey ya'll,
I have been using Krylon Spray paint with my models and am semi-pleased. I tryed using their clear coat to shine it up but it only dulls the paint. I want to switch to something better but not pay the $6.00 a can for the Testors paint. can someone please tell me who is the best to use to get a shiny clear coat, what steps to follow and if I need to switch paint companies.

Here is my 2 cents worth. I have used Krylon on some of my models. I have not used their clear. The best thing for great paint jobs, regardless of what brand you use, is a polishing kit. One of my nicest paint jobs is Krylon black polished out. No clear. You could read the light bulb info. in the reflection. Not sure what the current price for a kit is but it should last you a long time. Like anything else you get better the more you use it. Good luck!

I agree, a polishing kit is a must have. I have used nothing but automotive colors and paints for the last three years, and when you take the time and do the steps the finish is worth it, although I have been slacking a little on the polishing step! I have never tried black, and I would try nachoz's advise.

Ever since I started using Tamiya's new synthetic lacquers, I enjoy painting again; it sprays like enamel, but flashes over & cures like automotive paint...the best of both worlds IMO.
I used to spend a month painting a body with enamels, mostly due to the drying time, but I sure don't have that kinda time nowadays.
The Tamiya sprays are about the same price as Testors enamels, but I say they're worth it. 5 or 6 bucks for a can of paint is a small price to pay.

I'm in agreement with NachoZ. A Micro Mesh polishing kit is the way to go along with some Novus 2. This is the approach I took on my bug with great results. I started with 3600 grit and went down to about 6000 grit. Then I polished with Novus 2, followed by Novus 1. The results? My Micro Mesh kit came from Detail Master www.detailmaster.com/ for about $18 I picked up the Novus at a hobby show and I can't remember the retail on it. Search the web, you'll find it. Hope this helps .......

I use a micro mesh(1500-12,000) and plastic polish for my acrylic pens could I the plastic polish for my models or would it ruin the paint. If any of ya'll need the micro mesh in 'bout 3'x5' sheet I know where you can get them but only in-store. If any ones interested you can send me the money and I will send ya'll a package.
