Does anyone have any tips they wouldn't mind sharing on the best way to detail tires? I mostly use decals, but I'm getting very short on white Goodyear decals. So, I was thinking of painting the tires by hand. I was hoping some of you might have some tips you could pass along. Thanks!

I use Sharpie (fine point) markers for a lot of different detailing for anything in general. For tire lettering I use a white (white out pen) or a white marker. I would advise to use a few old tires to practice on or use the (inside) of the tire to be used. It works great with a bit of practice. Hope this helps.

Check with Kevin at Strada Sports and look at all the different Shabo dry transfer decals available. Dry transfer decals work great. These are from a Tamiya kit but look just as good.

Just goes to show you, somethings could be right under your nose. I used to live pretty close to Strada Sports when I lived in St. Charles, MO. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out.

Also check with Mikes Decals/Powerslide. Link on bottom of page. Thanks Bobby. I have done a decent amount of business with Mike's over the last year or so. I actually had planned to buy some more tire decal from him soon.

My vote is for the dry transfer type. I have hand painted lettering. No matter how careful you are it will not be as "crisp" as a decal or dry transfer. If you paint them use acrylics, not enamels. I tend to over paint the lettering. I let the paint dry and then clean up the paint that shouldn't be there. I usually use a dental pick or a #11 blade to scrape away the excess paint. This might not be the best way but I get fairly decent results. Hope this helps.
