Progress on the Silvia.
I was able to start painting last night, thanks to NachoZ, for picking up some yellow Tamiya spray paint for me this weekend. First off, here is my inspiration for the paint scheme on my Silvia... and here is the start of paint on the Silvia. The blue paint will lay right up to the yellow, and a white decal will separate the two colors. I also got some chassis parts painted last night.

Well I couldn't wait. The yellow was dry after a few hours in the dehydrator so I figured I would lay down the blue. What do you think?

Paint was dry enough on my Silvia so I sanded it down with a little 4000 Micro-Mesh, taped off the area around the windows I wanted to paint black with some Tamiya tape, and airbrushed on some Model Master trim paint.I'll start applying decals next week.

Your work, this time the trim, is always so crisp and clean. One of the many differences between your models and mine...lol

Started decaling the left side last night. By the way, the decals being used on this car came from Strada Sports. You get 2 huge sheets of Red Bull decals, enough to do 5 different cars. They are printed by Carograph (so you know they are crisp) and are a joy to work with. Check out Strada Sports Ebay auctions. $18.00

So what class of race car is this anyway? Oh this car has lots of class! ;D The decals looked nice, I wanted to use them on a different car, and it was a club project. I'd put it in the "Pure Fun" class for me. So where would you like to race it? I'm up for anything.

;D So how can you get this kind of shine? FYI:
Both the blue and yellow were painted with Tamiya rattle can over Tamiya primer.
This was sanded out with 3600 and 4000 Micro-Mesh and decaled.
About 5 coats of Duplicolor clear enamel rattle can was shot overtop.
This was left to dry for a week and finally block sanded out with Micro-Mesh to 4000.
An additional 5 coats of Duplicolor clear enamel rattle can were shot overtop all that to smooth out all the decal edges.
Another 4 or 5 days of drying.
Finally everything was polished out with Micro-Mesh, working my way up to 12000.
The topper was a coat of Zymol car wax.
Lots of time and elbow grease here guys, about 30 to 35 hours just in the paint finish.Tamiya paints are very quick drying, and give you a nice initial shine, but they are very soft when it comes to polishing them out. Be careful. These will work great when you decide to join in for our 24 hour build. I hear that even NachoZ may try them this year. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D For all my build photos on the Silvia, check out my Fotki site at: public.fotki.com/gkulchock/all-my-modeling-rel/my-finished-modelin/red-bull-silvia--my/Thanks for tuning in over the past 3 months guys!

Did you do anything special to the glass to get it as shiny? Wax also? Awesome work as usual. John
