*** Finished Pics @ post #11 *** My Model Car Club is having a 1-month build off contest. we have from when we received the unopened kits on OCT 2 until NOV 6 to finish the kit. we all chose our kits at our last meeting. I chose the 1993 Ford Ranger. I picked this kit because I've wanted to do a ranger for a while. & I also wanted to to a pre-runner type truck for a while also, so I decided to combine the two. Unfortunately, this build quicky evolved from "pre-runner" to "Street-Runner". it's going to be too time consuming to pull off the necessary Pre-runner content in less than a month. but there are still quite a few scratch-built items making on here. First thing: lifting the stock suspension: rear was easy, the kit comes with height adjustment blocks. the 6 in the kit were suffecient to get the rear leaf springs to the proper height. the front is a different story. Twin I-Beams were flipped, de-springed & the attachment points were flipped. new shocks were created from scrap tubing. Springs were sourced from the parts box. I'm scratch-building a custom sheet-metal front bumper: it'll have a brush guard, fog lights & a winch when it's complete. these are the wheel/ tires I'm using: they are for those small R/C trucks (I forget the brand) but a set of 4 are about $8 @ the LHS. I have been furiously painting the past 3 days. here are the results: Close-up of the spring assembly: close up of the front suspension: still have alot of detail painting to do & a suprise for in the bed.

Nice work Mike. What colors did you use? Almost the same as my Silvia build.

front springs themselves were a parts box / unknown source. more than likely something i took apart & thought that the springs were 'about right' & kept them for future use. on a side note, the tamiya Jeep Grand Cherokee kit has springs in it , but I thought they were a bit small for the lift I was creating here.
shocks were created from a few different sizes of tubing. in the picture, the silver things are those fujimi plastic axle things that come in those older kits.

Updates:body is hanging out in the paint booth, receiving it's 3rd & final coat of Clear: here's the finished front grille / headlight assembly: & Here's the finalized new Front Bumper: & here they are mounted on the truck: the rear: this is my scratchbuilt "tailpipe", a piece of alumunum tube chucked into a dremel & then polished. A couple other random shots: I still have a bit of detail work to get done, but it looks like I'm pretty much way ahead of schedule.

Yeah, it's almost finished. not sure if i'm going to add my "bed suprise" or not, as I botched the paint on it. but I'm thinking that the Ranger is done. I'll get some pics later this evening or this weekend, depending on my schedule.
