Porsche 962, CokeSince Bobby and John posted their finished models , I figured I'd go ahead and throw mine up here. Based on the Tamiya Porsche 962C, my model was modified to the 1986 turbo version. Sounds pretty simple but there was a lot of body work required before painting. The Renaissance SPD-RP4 scoop had to be molded into the stock body as well as modifying and enlarging the roof top NASA air inlet. I also filled the old side exhaust ports and opened the grill-work on the sides. I removed the molded in rear wing for painting before pinning it back in place. The whole rear end of the chassis required major modification to change it to a turbo version so an elaborate piece was made before-hand and grafted into the unmodified kit chassis during the build. Yes, the kit I started with was totally unaltered to stay within the rules. The kit was painted Tamiya red and decaled using a RaceWorks decal sheet. The wheels are Studio 27 aluminum and cast metal units made for the Porsche 962. I ended up not using any of the Studio 27 Photo-Etch. The best thing was I finished it in the 24 hours, a first for me. Nice work as always Gary. That is as nice as I could do in 24 days, let alone 24 hours.

Thanks for all the great comments guys. Most of the comments hover around the fact that you can't believe this was done in 24 hours. Well here are some tips on quick building. (1) Choose your build subject wisely. I've always liked building the Fujimi Enthusiast kits but I wouldn't choose this kit to build in 24 hours. (2) Plan your steps to allow for drying paint. Some of the first things I painted were the interior, dash and seat. This gave me something to detail out while the paint was drying. The gold center of the wheels were also painted early. (3) Super Glue and Kicker. Great body filler. Instant. Glue on a part with super glue, hit it with kicker, and your ready to start file work and sanding. (4) Fast drying paints (Tamiya) and a dehydrator. Can't beat this combination. (make sure your paint is fresh and test spray before the build to check it out just in case) (5) Test your decals ahead of time. You don't want them falling apart during the build. That 20 year old kit sounds like a great build, but...... (6) Review your plan of attack a few times and rearrange steps as required. Who else is in for 2010?

Just to add to what Gary has said in the post above. I went through my kit instructions and looked at the paint guides of each step. I took a 3 x 5 card and labeled it "red", "black", etc. and listed each part for that color. I got all the "red" parts ready and shot them all at the same time. These speeds up the build process as well.

Thanks for the tips Gary. One tip you need to fill me in on is using super glue to fill seams and joints like you do.

Great looking build and thanks for the 24 hour tips, still don't think I could build that fast, though!

Great looking build and thanks for the 24 hour tips, still don't think I could build that fast, though! Sure you can. It's all in the advanced planning. Bobby, next meeting I'm bringing superglue and kicker, and we're doing some quick, flawless body work.

That is a great looking build. I believe you did it in 24 hours but it sure doesn't look like something that was put together that quickly.
How about a tutorial on the superglue and kicker for us guys stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds good to me. First off, the supplies. Nothing fancy here. I use just plain old Super Glue. This can be had at Big Lots or Wally World for a buck for 2 bottles. I usually keep about 10 or 20 bottles on hand. The kicker did come from a hobby shop. The refill is real economical at $11.00 for 8 oz. More soon.
