This is being built for a friend at work. It will replicate his father's pickup. He bought the kit or someone bought it for him. Anyhow, he doesn't build models and knew that I did. He gave it to me and said to build it when I get a chance. Well, that was well over a year ago . I only have his memory to go from, no pics. He says that his Dad's pickup was basically the same as the box art pickup. This will not be a detailed build, mostly OOB. May do a little wiring and plumbing.....we'll see. All of the parts have flash and ejector pin marks. I will sand off the flash and fill the major ejector pin marks.

Here's something a little different from you John. I always liked these old Chevy pick-ups. Looks like it'll be a cool build. Make sure you keep us updated.

Just a quick update on this one. I found out today that my friend's birthday is in a month. I am going to try and have this done for him. It should be a surprise to him seeing that I've had this model for well over a year. If it all goes well I will have a lot of up-date pics in the next month. As I said in the first post I only have his memory to go on and he isn't much help...lol. I am having the most trouble with the interior info. Does anyone know if the exterior is blue the interior was_____? If I can't get a definite answer I am going with blue and white for interior colors. If anyone knows of web sites with good reference pics, let me know. Thanks guys!

I owned a 72 Chevy pickup, and just like those pics above, the interior was the same shade of blue as the body (mine didn't have any white on it, just solid medium blue). Just use the same paint, but coat the seats and dash with Semi-gloss, and the floor with Dullcote. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Do any resin casters make a short box for that kit?

Thanks Bobby and Tommy! I did find one web site that has some very good pics. I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place with my friend. I want this to be a surprise but yet I would like to ask him some more questions about the interior. I might try to see if his wife could find out anything.
Tommy, I am not sure about the resin casters. This is really not my area of interest so I know zero about what's out there.

Time for a quick update. It's funny how you make plans to get a project done and the world conspires against you to make it nearly impossible. The chassis is just about done. Maybe a little more detail painting and drilling out the exhaust tips. It is a pain in the backside painting the molded in parts. The body has been prepped and primed. After I had it all primed I found that I had white primer. Would have much rather used white. The pics you see are primer and the final coat of white. Not too worried about the masking because there is upper and lower trim that will get BMF. Hopefully this will give me a nice straight separation. I have most of the engine detail painted. I am debating about how much, if any, detailing to do considering my time constraints. The dash is not completely finished. I have a little more detail painting to do.

Lookin' fantastic so far...that dash looks real! Concerning engine detailing...most people make a big deal over plug wires, but I think adding heater hoses makes the biggest difference in appearance. Keep posting progress pics!!!

Looking good John! I've owned three of these trucks in 1:1 scale. It's always been my favorite body style. Keep up the great work.

Very nice John. Did you dry-brush the Chevrolet lettering on the tail gate? It looks great. ;D

Once again, a little more progress on the pickup. I think I will get it done in time. I'll call the dash done. I tried to pick out the guage face details but the engraving is so soft I could not do a good job. I looked around for some decals to put in them but was wasting too much time and never did find any. I think the grill turned out o.k. Started out using The Detailer black but ended up using a flat black wash. Maybe my The Detailer is old or bad but it just didn't cover very well, even with two coats. Too bad AMT has to have the attachment points right on the bumper. They are thick too! The cab has most of the BMF on. Also most of the detail painting is done. Just a little more to go. The box was done until it fell apart! It just doesn't fit together well and therefore there wasn't a full glueing surface and it popped apart. Mocked up.

A quick kudos to Gary K. He spotted that I have the steering wheel on upside down. I knew the correct way and STILL put it on upside down

That looks awesome John. I remember riding in trucks just like this one when I was just a pup. Of course they weren't as nice and I distinctly remember being able to see the road when I looked down from the passenger seat.

Maybe my The Detailer is old or bad but it just didn't cover very well, even with two coats. "The Detailer" is garbage, IMHO! Even if it covers ok, it's still too glossy. You did the right thing with a black wash. The truck is lookin' great!!!

Jeez that sucks John. I never really noticed. From now on when you get ready to paint just call me and I'll say "Hey John, don't forget the hood". Problem solved. You're welcome.
