hey everyone..the mad modeller and I have been tossing this idea back and forth for a while now, and I want to go ahead and try it..
the idea is a single build with multiple builders involved..
the kit is the Aoshima toyota 4 runner..
Ill do a working suspension and then send it to the next builder. Each builder will do there part and send it on. The mad modeller is already signed up for the paint work.
heres what we need ... *interior *custom bumpers, rockgaurds, rollbar,etc... *maybe a custom grafix/decal guy *engine builder(optional.. the kit doesnt come with an engine, but i think it would be fairly easy to mod the engine compartment and add one.. I'll just need to know if we have an engine guy before i start the suspension.)
and anything else you guys can think of.. the trick is..theres no real build plan..you just build off what the last guy did and we see what comes out. if interested, plz reply and sign up for a spot on the build team
add any ideas you have.. thx, mopar1

If someone will build the rollcage I will finish out the interior. Add seatbelts and other goodies.

hope to see more posts here..though we could double up on jobs... i'd like to see one job per person to have as many hands on this as possible.. however, if it comes down to it, i can mod the engine bay for it to accept and engine if need be.
im gonna keep the independant front, but not sure if im gonna leave rear coils or mod it to leafs.. hoping to get alot of movement out of this one, and its hard to find coils soft enough.

I'll be glad to dump an hot engine in this thing, not stock of course. I used to have a 4Runner of this year and am quite intrigued with the project. What kind of time frame are we talking here?
[glow=red,2,300]My Comments:[/glow] OK, the basic kit has been established but I think everyone involved will need to know a general direction the build is going to take on. Are we talking a street ride, rock crawler, drag racing, full custom trailer queen or what?

well..its in on the way to my house now.. when it gets here itll take first priority. Working suspension isnt the fastest thing to do, but i think i get it done fairly quick. then we need to know who all is building, and what part they have so we can get an order of who to send it to next. just so youre aware, the kit isnt meant to have an engine, so there will be som customizing needed to put an engine in it.. ill try to leave some lee-way as to where the t-case has to sit to make it a little easier..looking at your work, im sure youll have no prob making it look right. Id also like to have an idea on color scheme in case i decide to do any color accents on the under side. now if we could get an interior guy, and someone interested in scratch building some fat bumpers we'll be set... mopar1

Ok, ok! I give up. I will build the cage. You guy's arm-twisting is too much for me! John

Are we talking a street ride, rock crawler, drag racing, full custom trailer queen or what? Agreed. What are we going for? Or is the goal to see what shows up at the end when multiple people work on it with no communication? John

well, there will be some communication.. its kinda up to you..whatever the model tells you to do. Im gonna try to retain the ifs and just turn it into functional ifs. either retain the coils in the rear, or go leaf springs. its gonna have the 38" swamper tsl's, so its definately an off-roader, however im not trying to go all out rock crawler. but as I said..it just depends on what the model has to say to you. what we do need to figure out is a color scheme as all builders will have to follow along with the same colors. once the suspension is done, its out of my hands. Well since I do like those wild Mopar colors. I think Plum Crazy Purple with green flames.
Whoever is doing the bumpers and cage I can send you the paint. John if its you I can bring the paint to Cookeville. Do you want spray can or for airbrush?

I am thinking about the green metallic on the Jeeps. The long bed truck is fine with me. It will still need a cage and roll bars.

I don't know why I missed all the new replies but... 1. Yes, I want to be the one to build the cages... if you don't mind my help. 2. I prefer spray can but can break out my airbrush. And yes, bring anything and everything to Cookeville. I keep having apple green as a possible color pop into my head for some reason. 3. I like the idea of a pickup much better, it will show off the cage better Seriously, I came across photos of a J-10 with an AWESOME cage though the bed work and have been inspired. I hope you have a spare wheel/tire. 4. Should I build the cage before the suspension? If we are doing rear coils or 4-link, they will need to attach to the cage. John

Nice! ;D I figure the engine bay area is the same as the 4Runner and the 4 door cab Toyota short bed I have. I'll start planing the power-plant and let you all know where I'm heading. For sure V8 and headers. Induction? ?

John John I think you are more than welcome to join in. I will pick up a spray can to bring to Cookeville. Do you want basecoat/clearcoat or enamel? You will have to ask Mopar what suspension he is looking to use. I think 4 builders should work fine on this. mopar1- suspension coopdad- cage/interior Gary- drivetrain myself- paint One question though. What are we doing with the build when its finished??

For sure V8 and headers. Induction? ? I say a Buick V-6 with twin turbos or Supra twin turbo. The V6 idea sounds pretty cool but would be best suited running at high rpm's. I'm in the market for a lot of horsepower and gob's of torque at low rpm's for this truck. ...... there's no replacement for displacement!

I vote V6 also but it depends on what we want to do with it... trail it or show it.
And thinking of paint, I don't necessarily need to paint the cage. You can paint it when you paint the rest of the truck. That way you won't have to bring anything to Cookeville. John

Gary, Cookeville is in Tenessee. It's the Middle Tn. Modler's Assoc. show, both auto and military, and is on Saturday March 14. Got to meet Bobby, Old Coyote, and a few from another board there last year, despite the blizzard we had to go thru on the way down. What should be like a 2 1/4 hour drive took us 4.5 to 5 hours to make! And that also resulted in a low turnout on Saturday for the show, but we had a good time anyway! This sounds like a great project, can't wait to see the results. If my building time wasn't so sporadic I would have gotten in on it, but didn't want to risk holding the project up. Dave Oh, and if you want to see the pics I took there last year, s207.photobucket.com/albums/bb298/fireguy14/shows/Cookeville2008/

Its a great lil show. We woke up to 4+ inches of snow the day of the show last year. Still had a great time.
