My buddy Tom is building a G-gauge railroad layout in his basement, and I've been helping out over the past several years. LGB 'G' is 1:22.5, so it's almost dead-on for what I work in...needless to say, I'm thrilled he likes larger scale trains. For my main contribution to the layout, I get to make a junkyard; when it's all done, there will be about a dozen derelict vehicles. As a little joke, I'm including ratted-out versions of our own cars and those of a few friends. Here's the first of many: Our buddy Don has a gorgeous '70 Monte: And here it is, a little smaller....and a lot messier: All the current pics are here: public.fotki.com/VWDave/my_model_cars/model-railroad-projects/70-monte-carlo-ss/I know that Don hasn't seen the model yet, because he's gonna call me right away and give me an earful for what I did to his 'baby.' ;D

Thanks for the kudos, all. I know that every step of this project will be a blast for me, and I'll try to document all of it.
Ed - So far, those are the only pics of the junkyard itself...up until now it's just been a 2'x3'(or so)grassy area. As I add more vehicles it will start to look more like the vision I have in my head.

Thanks for the positive words, all. I have a feeling this will be a lot of fun to do, making junkers on such a large scale. Tom and I are both learning from each other, as he's never really done any weathering, and I've never done scenery or structures. Here's a few of the other vehicles that are slated to be 'junked,' and added to the dio: *My '68 Beetle and '68 Meyers Manx *Tom's plenty-rare '74 360 4-speed 'Cuda *brothers Mark and Mike's '69 Hemi Charger 500 *Either Pam & Doug's '65 or '56 Beetles('Schultz' and 'Rudy') I've also told Tom that 'Joe' might make a guest appearance on the layout at some point as well. ;D

Those cars are gonna make for a cool junkyard. I can't wait to see what you do with them. Especially the Manx.

It'd be cool if you could figure out a way to make the fiberglass look cracked and be able to see a few fibers. Then again this is 1/25 and that may be a bit difficult. ;D BTW your friends have some awesome cars.
