Here is a relic from my childhood. Dad built this for me in the early '70's, and for the most part it survived me and my little brother! He did minimal painting, but the decals got tossed before he put them on. I was proud as heck of it anyway, and proudly put it out. It got played with some, both by me and my brother. I think I took the antenna, and he got the siren and other bubble light. I had the siren for a while, but have no clue where it is now. I recently got 3 of them at a show in Louisville, they are neat kits. Figure on taking the lights and antenna out of one, and the decals for this version also. It is already coming apart, so I'll take it down as far as I can and give it a good bath. Just not sure if I should go back and paint the white on, as dad never did. He just laid the blue stripes down. I don't really want to change what he did, but would like the white to be glossy. Anyway, this is a far off project, was just moving it around the other day and thought I'd post pics of it.

Ok, so I have moved ahead with this one. Took it apart, as much as I could get, and gave it a good bath. Still a lot of grime (it has been sitting out for over 30 years) so it still had a lot of grime and some sanding marks around the stripes. Hit the roof and trunk on one side with 1000 grit, followed by Meguires swirl remover, then "The Treatment" wax. Amazed at the results. Very white, and although you can't see it in the pics, very shiney. Looks almost like it has been painted!:

Yeah Will, funny how that happens! It started with putting the Bee on hold for the moment, then needing a project to keep me occupied while I was painting the Kurtis, and then finding one of the other police cars in my stash. Figured why not, and it ended up being so easy! Got most of it back together as of now, getting ready to add the lights, siren, and antennas. Discovered in the instructions that Detroit had 2, one on the roof and one on the trunk, both centered. They must have been in the original kit, but seeing as how the box got tossed (that is how the original decals went mia), there is a good chance dad would have added them as well. I turned up a picture of another built with them, so gonna add them now, along with one outside mirror. Plus, I just have to paint the door handles! I was able to resist BMF'ing the trim, but have to do the handles. When I showed it to dad Sunday, he told me I should have redone the entire thing! It really is a very neat, enjoyable kit, even if it is a little crude in places. I hate you don't see them more often, as I know there are a bunch out there, and they always sell on ebay. Just don't know where they are hidden. Think the next one is gonna be an LAPD car. I looked yesterday and found that they didn't acutually have any Fury 1's, but who cares, right! Thanks again for looking.
Dave
