So just what is, or what was the Poison Pinto? Back in the 70's, designer Tom Daniels was cranking out tons of show cars for Monogram. 3 of my favorites were the Rat Vega, Poison Pinto and Smug Bug. I've yet to find the 1/16 scale Smug Bug. Anyone care to get rid of theirs? These were really "cool", "far out" and "groovy" cars in the 70's, but here in 2009 they are all quite dated. I did my thing to the Rat Vega to bring it up to date, and I intend to do the same for this Pinto. By the way, this kit I'm going to be hacking away at, is an original kit, molded in slime green. Let's see what direction it takes because I have not established anything yet.

Anything you do to it Gary will be cool. You have an eye for adding the right stuff to any build.

Put on a wild paint scheme. The ghost flame technique on your Beetle was a great touch.

Something about those "over the top" kits from that era really strike a chord with me. Looking forward to seeing this one posted as a finished model.

Finally got some work done on the Pinto. I cut out the strange front wheel wells and replaced them with some flat panels from another kit. Then I added on some parts-box flares that matched the original rear flares. It's coming along.

Happy new year guys. Well I had a chance today to work on the Poison Pinto. As you can see in this photo, the Pinto comes with no hood. The motor is just ...... there. Well I added in the hood from the Revell Super Stallion Mustang. Keeping it all Ford if you will. I'll get it all smoothed in and then come back and cut it open at a later date, adding in inner fenders and a firewall. This way it should all fit nice, tight and level. Later ........ G

Coming along. I got the bottom of the front fender flares molded into the front air dam. It will look better once I get some primer on it. Rear is coming along too. Got enough rear skirt on the extension of the flares to cover the huge rear tires. License plate filled also. Here's an overall so far. (That's one of the rear tires in the photo.)
