Here's something you dont see every day, Allison V-12 aircraft powered home made dragster from the 50's. Most know who Art Arfons was and what he did for the automotive and racing. This is one guy who either had a death wish or just plain nuts. But through his engineering of dragsters, numorous land speed record breaking cars, to monster truck pullers he was one of the most famous pioneers of racing with his Jet engine powered 1/4 milers.....so I decided to build this from scratch except the Allison engine and see what i would be able to accomplish. Frame rails from styrene square rod and round rod, Allison aircraft motor from the Revell parts pack, wheels from the Ford F-350 dually, tires from old 1940's truck and as for the body..... LMAO lets say I had 2 choices..... 1-buy an aircraft kit at a cost of $40+ and hope to be the right shape and size.....OR.... LMAO LMAO UM! think WAY outside the box and UH Yikes!! devile go to and adult store and buy a torpedo for $7.95, LMAO gut it... so I can cut it up and weld the nose end to the frame which happens to be a perfect fit and shape. LMAO LMAO Guess which one i picked LMAO LMAO

changed the tires, found tires that are a lot closer to the real ones, had to shave own the wheels to work with a thinner truck tier.....and mocked up the front end to see ride height. Also got the roll bar and back rest done too.

Ok More updating pics. I found a green in Tamyia paint that is very close to what the real car is or was lilke. I would have to say about 90% accurate, I think my color is a tad darker I also got the front panel made that sports the steering column and pedal assembly

That's awesome Dan. Great idea and a very cool iconic drag car. One question, how did you know that your "torpedo" was only $7.95 at the super store? And why did you buy a blue one with black speckles? ;D

And why did you buy a blue one with black speckles? ;D went to the adult store to purchase it, I didnt really care about the color,,,had to do with sizing ;D .... When I purchased the UH UM!! body ..... the Mrs was with me, store policy is that they open the package and put batteries in it to assure that it works before you leave the store. I was doig fine until it got to this part.... The sales lady asked my wife if she wanted to assure that it worked and she replied to the sales lady" its not for me its for him" RIGHT THEN!!! my ears were on fire ...at that point I was left with lilttle choice but to explain what it was for. The sales lady asked if I could send some pics after it was done. Her husband builds model cars too and she said that without the pics he wouldnt believe her ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to say that this a unique scratch build project.
How much research did you have to do to find the perfect nose piece?
You got it to come out looking good.

Dana All in all, one evening....went to tour local Hobby shops for aircraft kits, but refused to pay the price just to cut the nose off, looked a rocket kits, found they all had too pointy tips or way to big in diameter. On the way home I saw the adult store off to my right so decided to make a hard right, park, go in and find what I needed for $7.95. didnt care about color, just size ;D ;D ;D

What kind of right did you take??? ;D Anyhow, very cool model. Looks great. Speaking of size, just how big is that thing? (I know, no matter what I say........) What I'm saying is it would be neat to see it compared to a regular model.

Very cool build Dan. One thing I can say is that us model builders will use anything on a model.

I'm glad you sanded the nose cone before painting, because it looked a little knobby. Now with your scratch building skills in hand, you should attempt one of his land speed record machines.
