Here is my official MPC box stock entry. I've had it on my shelf for years, Thanks for giving me a reason to build it. I'm pretty sure the decals are toast, so they wont be being used. Is that ok? Otherwise it appears to be complete. I'll get started on it next week as soon as the build off starts.

Found my wading boots and went out out back and got some pictures, finally! An old MPC Southern Stocker Grand Prix! These are really pretty good older, generic race car chassis in these kits, with some qualificatins! I am not a prototype "Rivet counter" but I like things in a logical fashion, for me, that is part of the fun. These chassis ( I have the Chevy, and the buick, and they are all the same, also the same as the Model King re-issues!, represent a decentlate seventies, early eighties, short track, manufactured chassis. Independent front suspension, a leaf spring rear, and some cool detail parts! It is not accurate for NASCAR, then, as the 80's cup cars had the long truck arms and coil springs! With that said, here's mine. This is as close to out of the box as I can get! I chopped the top and removed the B pillar. Then had to do the same to the roll cage. I cut the rear spring shackle to lower the car, and it still sits a little on the high side. I'll live with it. I'm using my own decals, and added some after market wheels from Fred's Resin Workshop, as I just don't like the ones in the kit! (Just tryin' to have fun, you know, I'm the one that has to look at this thing! So, I'm rollin' along pretty good so far, I'm trying to get it done before I hit the road Wednesday, I'll have bare chassis shots and updates soon! So lets see how everyone else is doin'!

Haven't gotten too much done on this. Most of the engine is done, and a lot of the chassis. Not going to be real detailed, with the end result a surplus jeep that has been very cheaply painted, some paint coming off, someone is using as a shop vehicle. Will have more soon!

Great job Dave! Seen many in my day that look just like it. Who made the kit and would you recommend it? john So, now that you are finished, would you recommend the kit?

Thanks John. The kit is from AMT, it's the Hogan's Heroes Jeep. I kinda like the kit, but the instructions stink. I don't know how many reissues there have been, but the part numbers on the sheet do not match up with what are on the trees. And there is a ton of military stuff that I am not too sure how it would all go together. This one is curbside, so I wasn't too concerned wtih it. Put just enough of the engine and running gear in it so that if you look at from the side it looks complete. Also, I'm not sure how the original ones looked, but there is an area on the back of the hood that doesn't look quite right. Like maybe they designed it so that there would be reinforcement for the hinge, which doesn't work out quite right either. So, like I said, if you can get one cheap enough, they are a decent little kit, but not top shelf by any means. Later.
