What do you do when a Testors Flintstone Mercster body falls in your lap? No wheels, tires, suspension or photo-etch, just the body. Some members of the club wanted to throw it in the garbage at last Tuesdays meeting, but I think I came up with a way of saving the little guy. I'm turning it into a 1/16th scale amusement park Bumper Car. Here's the stock Mercster body. Here's what it's supposed to look like finished. .... and here's mine after 2 nights of body work. I hope to get some primer on it in the morning. I'll start on the "bumper" area tomorrow.

Gary, I wish I had a fraction of your creativity and just a smidge of your talent! I say this one needs to go in the "Misc. Category" at the next model contest. You can bump our buddy out of first place .

Great save Gary! Could even make a great flying car, like from a 40's / 50's futuristic sci fi movie!

The bumper car is moving along and I still have hopes of it being finished for the Toledo NNL. I found a Jimmy Flintstone 1/16 scale figure to modify. I'm doing some reshaping of the figure today and I hope to get to the seat bottom this week. Paint next weekend guys. The LED lighting has been fitted in the body also. Stay tuned.

Yes, really cool idea. Any idea what you will be doing with the Ted Nugent-looking guy in the seat? Hey, you could paint the bumper car with zebra stripes and have a gun rack on the back! There is no charge for my "advice"

Well I don't think the zebra stripes will happen. I picked up the red metal-flake nail polish today. The inserts on the side should be painted a pearl white.
As far as the dude behind the wheel, I have some special plans for him.
Stay tuned and just have to see how he turns out.

A couple more "in construction" photos. I figure they have School Day, K-Mart Day, Westinghouse Employee Day, and any other Day you can think of at Kennywood Park, why not Hells Angles Day. Here we see "Blade" enjoying himself on the bumper cars. That red's only the base-coat for the metalflake paint to be shot this week. It will be finished by the Toledo NNL, with a whole white-up.

Paint is on, polished, waxed, and the bumper car is ready for final assembly. I should have all the LED's in and working tonight. It will be ready for the NNL this coming weekend.

Finished! ;D All ready for the Toledo NNL and 5 days early at that. Check it out! It's Hell's Angels day at Kennywood Park and Blade is having himself a great time. He won his old lady a nice pink bear, got himself one of those huge Kennywood souvenir bottles, and is enjoying his cotton candy on the Bumper Cars. What could be better.
