(I posted this at Coffin Corner, thought I'd share this here as well.) I was talking to my local hobby shop guy and I asked him what he thought of the special tins they seem so determined to use these days on new kits. He wasn't too happy. He said they take up more of his shelf space than a regular kit and he could sell 5 to 10 kits for every one special edition tin packaged kit. He's had a 1/32nd Batmobile kit setting there for the longest time on his shelf, weeks now, and it'll probably be there when I visit him today. I bought one of these, the Double Dragster/Fiat, but only because I liked the original artwork. I know for a kit I'd want to build, I'd rather not have the extra expense plus that larger tin can just laying around. What do you think, is it getting out of hand? I know before I get my MunsterKoach/Dragula kit, I'll wait for the paper box.

It really doesn't bother me. I thought the Munster Koach and Dragula were only coming out in the tin, then afterward the Koach only in the box? I could be wrong. I love the tin for the Koach/Dragula that I just received. If nothing else, it'll work great to store styrene sheet and other modeling supplies. I guess on the Batman side of things, it's a specific subject and 1/32 scale. Perhaps people are holding out for the forth-coming 1/25 scale Batmobile.

It might be handy for storing paint bottles and miscellaneous hobby items, but I'd hate the wear and tear the box would get. Also, in these times where the hobby is struggling, can increasing costs be a good thing? If they don't release it as a double kit in a paper box, then no sale. I've already got multiple Koaches, all I really wanted was a fresh Dragula or two.

I've already got multiple Koaches, all I really wanted was a fresh Dragula or two. I guess it depends on your age and/or personal preference. I'm 34, so I missed these kits the first go-arounds lon these kits, and the idiots on evil-bay (or most other places) price or bid them well out of my price range to buy a kit I'm going to build as I'm not a collector. Personally, I'm pleased to have them and the price wasn't much of an issue. $39 for two kits equates to $19.50 per kit with the tin, so it's not more than you'd pay for a regular Revell kit that sits on the shelf for $24 at the LHS. If you just want the Dragula, then yes, it is a hefty price to pay. An increased price is something I've come to expect. Especially with new toolings from the likes of Tamiya and other vendors. Truly I don't think the hobby is struggling. I think people are just saving their money in hard times. For lack of a better comparison, when gas hit the $4.00 mark etc. what did people cut from their budgets first? Starbucks saw a drop in sales because people cut their morning latte out of the budget to feed their cars. Likewise, perhaps people are only buying 1 kit instead of the 3 or more they normally would. People are still buying, but not as much. The flip side of the coin also is that people spent money on a hobby to pass time rather than spend money on gas or a trip when money was tight. Parker Bros. and Hasbro games are marketing family game night still during our present recession. Back to the topic at hand since I veared away LOLOL Yes, the kit is expensive if you only want the Dragula, but finding the kits in the tin vs. the box, I haven't seen a price difference in my area.

If you just want the Dragula, then yes, it is a hefty price to pay. And that's the problem, many folks don't have that money for multiple kits. They can only afford to buy one kit, not two. I'm hopeful they'll finally reissue the Dragula in the regular box. I just don't think cranking up the prices for a shrinking consumer base is a good idea. Too many folks are walking away from the hobby as it is.
