Started me a new project....a '72 Chevy short bed pickup, which is a model of a truck I owned back in the 70's. I'm starting with the AMT Cheyenne kit and a resin bed from Bandit Resins..... The first problem is the trim. The kit is the fully loaded upscale Cheyenne, but MY truck was a baseline Custom/10. The resin bed already has the trim removed, but I have to do it on the cab... The next problem is the interior. The kit has bucket seats with a fold down console, MY truck was a standard bench seat. the issue here is, the seats are molded into the interior bucket. I used a razor saw to cut them out, and rebuilt the floor and back wall with styrene...... I found a seat in the parts box....not sure what it's from, a Torino kit I think, but the upholstery pattern is fairly close. After making a seat back and doing some filing and sanding, I'm happy with it. I think it'll look ok. Also had to "cheapen down" the dash by removing the optional gauges...my truck just had the basic gauges. Thats where it's at for now. Looking forward to getting back home so I can get back on this one!

Great start Tommy! Let us know how the resin bed works out. I like the looks of that, but have never used any of their stuff.

Got some paint laid down today. I mixed the medium blue from Model Master French Blue and Classic White. I think its pretty close to the factory color. Also started assembling the engine. During the summer months, my truck ran the factory 307 with a mild cam, aluminum high-rise intake, and headers. I also had some Z-28 valve covers on it....I had those on everything I owned, because you could buy them from the Chevrolet dealer for 25 bucks....new. I miss those days.

Thanks, Y'all. Got a little update on this...Got the dash finished, complete with an 8-track tape player made with little bits of plastic... Got the wheels painted and ready, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do about tire lettering. They didn't have BFG T/A's back then, I had Daytona Sport 60s on mine....but nobody makes Daytona Sport 60 decals. I might just go with something correct for the period....Goodyear or something. Any suggestions? And heres what it looks like just stuck together.........

Looking good Tommy. Can you print your own decals for the tires?

I thought about that, Bobby, but I don't know how to make lettering in an arc like that. Maybe it's time to learn! Lol. I would also have to print it on white decal paper with a black background, but that part shouldn't be a problem.

Loving the 8-track player. You got the right look on the brackets holding it too. Nice!
