I'm doing this one as part of a CBP "If the devil had a hot rod". I got it all primered up and sanded with 800 grit for a nice smooth base before shooting the black.

2 1/2 hours of patience and airbrushing, the flames are on. I'm not 100% satisfied with them but, then again, I'm my own worst critic. Here's the process I go through base red Next is orange highlights and a candy red Next comes some tighter yellow highlights and an orange candy Mid coat clear is applied, and then I mix white with a drop of yellow or two for the final highlights, and followed by a gold candy

Beautiful! The only problem I see is this is way too nice for anything the devil would drive! He would be in one of those rat-rod death trap things! Lol.

Nice flame job. I need to try one of these someday. Any tips for me? Go to Coast Airbrush's website and buy the Mike Lavallee "True Fire" DVD's and the nano stencils. The Ahn Phahm true fire DVD is also good. Buy a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity solo airbrush with the .15 needle and have a compressor you can dial down to 8-10 pounds of pressure. Lastly, buy the House of Kolor or Kustom Kolor urethane true fire paint kits and a good respirator. All in all, you're looking at an investment of $450 plus a solid amount of time to practice. I've been working on this technique for close to 2 years and I'm still not 100% satisfied and have a looooong way to go.
