Back when I was racing on dirt tracks, there were 4 divisions....cadet, hobby (which I raced in), "B" class, and the top class, late model. The king of Athens (GA) Speedway in the late model division was Ray Brooks from Jefferson. One year, 1975 I think, he won 19 races at Athens and other area tracks, matching his car number. Ray and his brother also ran a transmission repair shop, and when my dad expanded his garage, we 'subbed out" our transmission jobs to them. I got to know Ray pretty well, and ended up hanging around their shop more than ours! When I started a small sign business in the 80s, Ray gave me one of their stalls to work out of....free, no rent. Thats just the kind if guy he was. I've always wanted to build a model of Ray's Chevy II that was so successful, and I finally decided to go ahead and do it, building it curbside. This is based on a Rat Packer body. the interior is made from styrene sheet. Wheels/tires are from Fred's, paint is Testors gold and black, and the decals were drawn by me and printed by Joe at Diecasts And Decals. I'm really happy with the way it turned out....hopefully, I can give it to him next year at the Athens Speedway annual reunion.

I remember Ray well also. He is a heck of a good driver and person. Tommy, that is one fantastic rendition of Rays Nova. Between it and your Lundford Nova they are the 2 best Short Track Nova builds I have ever seen. Good job my friend!
