Once you turn the robot on with the switch (there is no separate controller), the paper disc on the top rotates from the gearing. A sensor reads the paper disc that you have shaded in and runs the commands - For example, two blank sections=both wheel motors off, two shaded sections=both motors on(forward), one shaded and one blank=one wheel motor on (right or left turn).
