Jumpin' into the contest with (my version) of a Vega F/C that Jungle Jim might have taken the wheel of....if yours truly had anything to do with it anyway! Snagged this bad boy off evil bay for cheap cheap and got the package today- with free shipping to boot! Don't ya just love those steals you find every once in a while?! Only paid like 11 bucks for it. This kit goes for around 28 dollars at my local Hobbytown USA store. Oh yeah, FYI so there's no confusion here as this goes along, this will NOT be a rivet countin' accurate replica of one of his cars or anyone elses car for that matter. Just gonna be a Jungle Jim style F/C finished the way I see it and the way I feel like buildin' it- I kinda prefer it that way!
It's just not in my DNA to build somethin' right outta the box as per those silly instruction sheets, so who knows what this will actually end up like! Gonna have fun with it though, that's for sure. So, here I go.....deep into the glue-sniffin, plastic crafters abyss.
Considering things usually change a few thousand times in the process of anything I take a whack at, I'm not real good at those up to date "in-process" photos and posts but I'll try to post anything worth mentioning. Thanks for peeking at my next victim guys, and keeping my fingers crossed to get this one wrapped up!

After what seems like forever, I'm actually making a little progress on this F/C build I've been putzin' around with and wanted to post what I've gotten done so far. There's an NNL meet mid-July here in my hometown of OKC and I'm hoping to have it wrapped up by then and get it onto a table. This is NO rivet-countin' accurate replica in any way shape or form- just a fun build how I wanna to do it so don't be too judgemental or harsh on me! I'm trying to marry both old-skool and modern day elements together into this car, so there's just no tellin' how it's actually gonna end up, but it's gonna be FUN to do!
Seems like all these "kit" funny cars I've ever worked on sit the rear end up way too high and unrealistic looking, so I hacked and whacked on it and finally got it settled down onto the chassis the way I want... nice and l-o-w. Created a few issues I had to deal with but so far so good.
Unless I can think of a better way to do it, I plan on doing the bumpers in BMF, but I'm not confident at all on how to make these compound corners work out smoothly- so any tips or advice from you master-crafters out there would be verrrry much appreciated!!
The paint is HOK cobalt blue fine metallic lacquer and I decided to go with no intercoats or clears this go around. Wanted to see how well I could polish just the lacquer out and I'm fairly pleased with it so far. I could have gotten a little more depth with a few coats of clear I think, but oh well~ I have the coarse polishing done, got most of the decals laid on so now I can finish out the graphics, start the final polishing steps, a few coats of rubbed canuba wax and I'm gonna call it done.
I'm fairly satisfied with how it's turned out so far, and now that I've got my weakest point behind me....(the body and paint) I can finally move on and start buildin' the fun stuff!
As always, please share any comments or suggestions you may have and hopefully I'll have another update later this weekend.
Thanks for peeking guys, and please, if you can help with the foil issue I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks in advance.
