Gary, this is based on what I like vs. what is realistic. I have no idea if you would find a huge stereo in pro-street. I would leave the speakers in. It is just another nice detail item. Great job on the door so far!

Great job on the door so far! Well John, I'm no expert on building a Pro Street car, but here's what I understand it to be. It's based on a Pro-Stock drag racing car, but can be street driven. It will have the big big tires out back, but DOT street legal of course. It must also pass inspection so we need to add in turn signals, wipers, washers, lights, mufflers, etc...., all the required goodies. The interior can be as bare or as luxurious as the owner see's fit. I'm still going with the 5 point safety harness and full cage as well for safety, but I feel that full leather and a killer stereo system would also be OK. Remember: Street driven!

That I think defines Pro-Street to the tee. That is the way I have always looked at the genre of car.

wow gary awesome work brother and about the speakers i attend a lot of car shows and pro streets are my favorite cars so i look them over really good and what i have noticed is some of the early built cars didnt focus on the sound system to much but the ones built in the last 10 to 15 years most have an outrageous sound system in them so you are safe either way i think they look terrific again awesome work so far !!!!

I'm back on it, and hopeful it will be finished for GSL in early May. I'll do all I can to keep posting photos of my progress. I cut out the original headlights and center panel. I replaced the panel with my own "under body" bracing with plans of extending the hood in this area, to lift off or hinge with the hood. The headlights will be replaced with units from the Tamiya Nissan R390 kit. Side skirts have been added and molded into the body. I'm also starting to form in the door jambs. Stay tuned. More to come.

Well I finally got around to building again, and I'm trying to finish up some older projects I started building ages ago. The Predator finally saw it's completion a couple years ago, and now it's time to finally finish up the 300ZX. I can't believe I've never posted photos here before of this project. Well let me bring you up to date. We are probably talking 1993 or 1994 when this project first got started. I had been working on a Lamborghini Diablo funny car project (still not finished) with the entire frame scratch-built out of plastic rod. I just didn't care for the lack of strength in the plastic, so I moth-balled the Diablo and started construction on a brass chassis for this new 300ZX Pro Street project. Check out the frame. I then made a working brass rear-end. The engine will be a combination of a ZR-1 block and transmission, and the heads from the Tamiya Nissan R89C. I scratch-built the Jaz fuel cell. Tubs are finished and I've started on the interior panels. Doors are all hinged and work sweet. Here is what she looks like all-together so far. Give me till the weekend and I'll post a lot more photos of what I've been doing on the build the past couple weeks. Some custom bodywork that is turning out great. I'm planning on having her all finished for next years NNL East, followed by GSL 2013. Later ..... Let me know what you think! There is a link in my signature that will take you to a lot more photos. Enjoy!

Added in one of the R390 headlight buckets tonight. I have it all sized and pinned so at final assembly it will just fall into place. Here is the basic door assembly and all the speakers and photo-etched grills. Still need to add in the vents and door handle. More to come! See you soon.

WOW....This model is awesome !!! Your brass work is FIRST CLASS !. When I looked at te doors with all the speakers in it, I just heard 'ROCKIN INTO THE NIGHT' by 38 special, That's what I'd have rockin' on the CD player crusin down the road. Again, first class job.

So after 3 years, I'm baaaaack! Sad thing though, the 300ZX is still not finished. The new more realistic goal is GSL 2017. Now I did display her at GSL 2015 about a month ago with some good reaction.
We have had a big development in the area of the power for her. The Nissan V8 is out. Replacing it is a 572ci twin turbo, twin intercooled, nitrous fed 3D printed engine from TDR. It took a big shoehorn but it does fit.
Let me get up to speed here, and I'll be posting a lot more photos. FYI: I may be posting a few photos on my Facebook site, but if want to follow along till the end of this build, here is where you belong.
Later I'll post some more recent photos so stay tuned!

Well here's a few more photos for you.
Here's a shot of all the inter coolers and brass radiator.
Here's one with the front end on. See, it does fit!
Starting to fit the dash. The entire console has been changed since I took this photo. I needed more room in the tunnel for the Lenco air shifters.
So here is the 90% finished exhaust system. I say 90% because I still need to solder the "Magnaflow" logos to the mufflers. Check out the piping for the turbos. 10 lbs of Poo in a 5 lb bag.

I found some 25 year old history on the 300ZX today. When I made the frame rails back then, I did not want to deform them by bending them, so I cut them out of a solid .100 thick piece of plate brass. Well here is some of the leftover brass complete with my original glued on pattern.

I've been working on the 300ZX a bit more lately. Trying to perfect the fit of the panels. The front clip has been pinned and is held in place with magnets. It works perfect. The hood is fit and I'm working on a hinge for it. More on this great little detail later.
