Decided on this one coat lacquer for my Vette build. So I picked up a can of the lacquer primer. It sprays and covers real good. So I went and picked up another can of it to get it ready for paint. Just realized how pricy this stuff is, over 6 bucks a can! Is there a cheaper alternative primer I can use? Would it be safe to use something like Krylon enamel primer, then spray the one coat lacquer, or just shovel out the coin and use this stuff? Just not sure if it would be safe to use enamel primer. Thanx.

I had primer problems a couple years back. I got tips from about half of the SABA Northwest Club. I now use Plastic-Kote T-235 primer. I have put it under all kinds of paint and yet to have a problem. It is 6 bucks for a big can, enough to do 4 or 5 models. I hope this helps. The other tip is make sure it's T-235 as it is sandable and the other Grey Plastic-Kote is non-sandable. They all told me that so I will pass it on to you.

Thank you Buck. I'll pick some of that up next time I'm out. The testors stuff is real good...so far. But I'd really have to stretch it to get two kits done.

Tim, I have tried the T-235 also and I liked it. Found mine by accident at a discount store.

Because I do mostly truck and trailer builds that are big and because I build and sell so many a week by order I have to have a primer that's cheap, covers good, dries fast, sandable and works good with any color and any brand paint. I only use 2 different ones and they both work great for me! Never had any problems with either one. 1. Rustoleum Primer filler which is perfect for when you have sanded to get stuff right or like on resins. You don't half to fine sand it....you just spray it and it covers and fills. 2. is the Cheap Walmart brand that costs $1.00. I use it religiously. It's a 10oz can, the big one. As for the rustoleum, I buy it at Autozone and it to is a big can for like $6 or $7. Hope this helps you. If you need pics of the cans let me know and I can send them to ya!

I recently started using NAPA Colorline brand of primer. Works great. $4.00 a can. I have shot auto paint over it and nailpolish thinner with lacquer ove it. No problems.

All of these brands should be readily available around here, I'll make a note of them and look the next time I'm out. Much appreciated fellas!
