Just Peachy!.....

After the slammety-bang rush-rush job I did on Under Pressure I wanted to get another custom project under way with a tad more laid-back pace...... I have been frothin' at the mouth to start the AMT '50 Ford convertible that my friend Sam surprised me with a few months back...Got it started and here's a couple of teaser pics... I think I'm going to channel this one to get it down in the weeds where it really needs to be...

So far I commissioned one of the quad headlight nose pieces supplied in the kit, modified a set of cruiser skirts from the Revell Merc kit, scratched up some '52 Buick side trim and also scratched some taillights modeled after a job I saw years ago in a custom magazine from a car Gene Winfield did.... I'm going with the stock top option as I like the profile better (Imagine that, on a car that would be SO EASY to chop!!).... Not sure where I'm going with the engine/trans yet.. May do the all-chrome 283 with this one....Time will tell.... Going with the Peachy-colored nail polish with White pearl under the trim. In the meantime, enjoy! -Shag

I was going to use the stock-height windshield until I set the up-top on the car..That axed that as it made the look too awkward...Going with the chopped windshield instead for this one... Another round in the spray booth going from Black primer to light Gray primer...You'll notice the un-even patterns in the front fender from grafting the front nose cone on..This is an effective trick to see where the warps in the bodywork are and where more sanding is needed.... Gettin' the rear end shaped up too. In the meantime, I'm also working on the suspension and underside...






The secret to grafting on the optional nose pieces is to have the coordinating hood ON the car, then see where your initial mating points are. Dab a touch of superglue in those places and quickly get the nose aligned with the hood, which you would have taped shut to avoid movement. Once the tack gluing confirms correct placement, your good to go with the filler of your choice. (If you wish to go the putty method, make sure that your body and nose are solidly glued together!) I chose the ever-favorite acrylic nail filler and it came together like a dream, though still fine-tuning left to do.... Here are a couple of close up shots with the hood off:



As I mentioned earlier I'm working on the undercarriage, had to grind away the ever-present AMT molded-in single exhaust, also hacked into the rear axle to lower it to the max. Happy to report that I won't have to channel it after all! Stay tuned! -Shag

Updates-Updates!! The more this thing comes together the more excited i get to see it done-though I ain't rushin' it!..

I'm adding some extras onto this 'cuz I just can't leave well enough alone... Starting with the addition of ribbed bumpers off the Revell Merc, narrowed to fit the smaller shoebox, a license plate will cover the seam, so it's all good. (Will be doing the same at the rear behind a continental kit(!))


Got the color coat mixed up for this baby and the final result will mess with yer eyeballs in different light....I started with the shade on the right, a color by Sally Hansen Hi-Def series called 'Three D', then in a moment of sheer madness (Blame it on the fumes!) I decided to add a few drops of the color on the left called '#1 Hottest Pink' by Milani... I took shots with a couple different settings tryin' to capture the 'POP!!':

Another addition is a set of '55 CHevy front turn signals left over from the Bad Apple build, lenses painted with Tamiya clear Orange:

WE GOT COLOR!!!.. I'm happy to report that my first go-round with spraying nail polish went for the most part smoothly....

The pics don't do it justice as there is just a hint of Pink pearl effect that you don't see in these shots..Plus I have a pearl White panel yet to spray beneath where the side trim will be... -Shag

We have clear, and boy does she shine!! If it weren't for some imperfections it wouldn't even need to be polished, but we're going for a perfect shine so it'll be a couple more steps anyways...... Here ya go!:

This is an awesome build. The body had it in the mock up stage, but, once you blasted color on there.....WOW!
It has really come into its own.
