Here is what I have been working on for the last few weeks. It is an older Revell of Germany kit. I was drawn to the paint scheme / graphics of the car. "Bitten and Hisses" replaced Benson & Hedges at the tracks were tobacco advertising was not allowed. The box art has a darker yellow than the real car. All of the pictures I found show a lighter shade of yellow. The kit itself is fairly simple in its parts count. It is fairly complex in its decal count ;D Just about every part has an ejector pin mark or 10. I didn't take any pictures until this point. There was a good bit of masking for the yellow and black paint scheme. Many parts are yellow on one side and black on the other. All three wings had black elements on them. The most effort went into the body. It is split horizontally from the nose back. I built the c o c k pit and installed it along with some suspension parts front wing support and glued the two halves together. Of course it did not mate up well at all. A lot of filling and sanding but the end result was worth all of the work.

Thanx for the info. The (it looks like) Euro Revell kits are generally simpler, tho not always. Great to see an F-1 here!

Thats going to look great! I always thought that ban on tobacco advertising was rather stupid, lol.

I need to make one correction on an earlier post. The yellow of the box art car and the yellow that I painted it are pretty close to each other. I believe I used flash on the model picture and this washed out the yellow. The box art in my post almost looks like "Camel Yellow" but it is not. (Not that anyone really cares... : Here are a few more pics. First up is the underside. F1 cars have a wooden board on the bottom. I am not sure if it is a wood plank or a mixture of wood, resin, etc. I did not try to go for a 100% realistic wood look. Close enough for this. No one will ever see it. The engine and transmission are pretty well hid on this car. I did minimal detailing. Once again, no one will ever see it. Last up for today. I began decaling. What you see here is just the rear wing. One of the red pinstripes broke in to 5 pieces . The carbon fiber decals cracked and tore. It was frustrating for sure. There are decals on the backside of each piece in the picture.

That looks awesome so far, and I never knew that about the bottom. Is the "wood" painted or a decal? If it's painted, you MUST show how it's done!

Thank you for the kind comments. I am not sure about "borrowing" pictures from other people so here is a link to the pictures I based the underneath from. There are three photos of the car suspended in air. www.flickr.com/photos/hh27/6765376425/in/pool-jordangrandprixcarsIt is paint and not a decal. Again, I did not go for a 100% realistic wood look. To my eye, the plank in the pictures look to be a dark brown. I started with the base plate being black. I masked off the plank. I used Model Master Leather and brushed it on to the black. I swerved as I went and did not try to totally cover the black. I let it dry and dry-brushed Model Master wood. I think I did too much wood color. Not perfect but as I said, no one will ever it.

Small update. It may not look like much, but there are a total of 10 decals and several compound curves on the parts pictured here. The top element is multi-layered. The "Total" decals lay on top of the carbon fiber. There are two carbon fiber decals on the back of each side piece.

Very cool John! You rarely see these built. I used this same kit years back for a Scale Auto magazine contest (2000 I think). Painted it white and used a made-up livery of different American companies, as a US F1 team (Iwish ). The bottom plank of a modern F1 car is made of a wood-based composite called Jabroc. It's used as a reference to see how much wears away during the race...too much wear and the car is DQ'd for being too low! You build is really looking good, I always liked the yellow Jordans from the late nineties. Eddie Jordan (team owner) was quite the character. Probably still is, just not a team owner any longer, I think he's part of a British F1 broadcast team now? Keep it going!
