As someone from North Dakota, I have seen my share of this diorama in 1:1 scale ;D.
I can't tell from the pictures, how deep is the base? Do you have the whole model there or did you cut off the front?

Thanks guys for all the great comments. The base is about an inch high and is about 12 inches square. I pucnched the hole in the plexiglass and used a shallow container filled with "woodland scenics" realistic water. I also used their "snow" for the rest.
