I hit a slump in building the heavy trucks because there are just so few different ones available. I dug the Monogram Mack AC log hauler out of the stash and decided to convert it to a tractor. The frame was cut down to a 122" center of hub to center of hub wheel base. The everything was painted a matte tan. Then a little engine and detail painting. The drive shaft and different linkages had to be shortened and refit. After that the cab, hood and front wheels were fit. The truck was set aside while I waited for the new resin triple tire back wheel/tires to arrive from Richard Mark at Industrial Model Design.

The resin back wheels arrived and they are great castings!!!!! I got them painted and installed. I didn't like the way the cab fit, so I tore it off, made some new mounting brackets and re-fit it. I completed the door on the passenger side and added the brass fire extinguisher with body color straps to the driver's side. I have started the 5th wheel. I studied the patent drawings for this era and came up with an easy design. The 5th wheel is just the bottom of a pharmacy pill bottle cut to height and glued on a sheet of plastic. I filled the bottom of the bottle with white glue to cover the writing and give it an uneven look. There is a dimple where I need to drill the hole for the kingpin. It will be painted frame color and given a black grease look on top where the trailer would rest. Still lots of work to detail the base plate, add headlights and maybe find the tow hook I sacrificed to the carpet monster.

Very cool. "Scale Model Enthusiast" has had a few of the old Macks done by builder over the years. Yours will be a new one to me, thanx!

What a neat build. You don't see these too often. Looks like you are doing a great job on it. Looking forward to seeing more!
