Thinking about the Model of the Month format for next year. Do yall like the themed format as we have used in the past, the decades format like used this year, or would you just like an open format? If you prefer themed, what themes would you like to see? Just trying to come up with ways to increase participation in the contest.

Maybe we could do some of each?

Hmm. Eddie, that is a thought. We will keep that in mind, just trying to renew interest in the contest. Thank you for the input!

Mixing it up a bit sounds like a good thought. The reason I like decades is that it does not limit the type of build. For the 40s, I might enter a Sherman tank instead of a car.
I also like the idea of a second place contest. One that would allow entries of any model that finished second on the forum.

I've entered a few months because of the flexibility to enter a wide variety of builds of any said decade. If I have something I can enter I will, regardless of the theme, year or decade you decide.
I do have a question. Just a thought when the Sherman tank was mentioned. Is this forum going to turn into a "build anything" place or will it remain specific to automotive categories?
Looking forward to see if this place picks up. Lots of competition out there.

Looking forward to see if this place picks up. Lots of competition out there. I wouldn't really enter a tank. I was just sticking that comment in to see if anyone would pick up on it and maybe get a little discussion going about what they like and maybe give the forum owner a few more comments to work with as he makes his decisions about the directions he wants to take the forum.

Looking forward to see if this place picks up. Lots of competition out there. This is primarily an automotive board, however, there are areas for other types of builds. If memory serves me correctly, my SR-71 won one of the MoM votes. I am like Iceman, I will enter if I have something that fits in that month's theme. I do not have strong feelings on any particular type of theme. Interestingly, if you go back and read my comments when it was decided to make this year's theme "decades", you will see that I specifically said we opened it up to decades to increase membership participation. That clearly did not happen.

I just voted for "decades" and here is why. I think it just allows for more people to enter. There are not too many model kits that do not fit in the century plus spread of catagories. Maybe my '32 Ford won last year but I can enter my tank or airplane from that decade this year. I found that too many times I did not have a model that fit a "theme".
Just my two cents.

Since I am the one who will be responsible for MoM, let me share for the new members and remind the older members how it works.
At the beginning of each month we will open up the MoM for entries. To illustrate, on Nov. 1st we will open "December 2014 MoM" for entries. Members will be able to post entries until there is approx. one week left in the month. For Nov., that will be Nov. 23rd.
With one week left in the month we will close MoM to entries and set up a voting thread. The vote tally will be hidden until the voting is complete. The winner will then have their model displayed at the top of the page for the next month. For our example, this will be the entire month of December.
At the end of the year, all monthly winners will be eligible for Model of the Year.
Some general rules. Please, only three (we've upped it to four) pictures per entry. If you have won a previous MoM with your model, please do not enter it again. Only one entry per member per month. This is all done on the honor system and I have no reason to believe that anyone here would not follow these simple rules.
Fireguy 14 may have some changes to these rules but I think this will be the basic format. We will keep you posted if there are any changes.

Any format will work for me. What about the pics on the top banner. We're nearing the endo of October and we still have Jules winner. Don't get me wrong, I love that build but what about August September and October winners?

I too voted for decades. This would include diorama's also wouldn't it?

Don't get me wrong, I love that build but what about August September and October winners? I hear you and agree with you Iceman. Here is the quick and dirty on pics on the top banner. Bobby, the founder and administrator of this board, was/is having some personal issues. He, as admin, is the only one who can do a number of things to the board, including MoM pics on the top banner. He did not have internet access. He then had it for a very short period of time. That time frame was around when I won the MoM. He then lost internet access again. Bobby is handing over the reigns to Fireguy14 but has not done so yet. Fireguy14 will set things right when he is able to. I appreciate everyone's patience during this time. I think things will get back to normal very shortly. I also like the dialog between the members here. This is your board too. Got a question or concern? Ask away.

I too voted for decades. This would include diorama's also wouldn't it? I sure would think it would, (and you have some great ones!) I would just ask that you explain why you picked the particular dio you enter. For example, for the 30's decade, I entered this dio because it has a '32 Ford. Something along those lines.

I was wondering about the banner images myself, but I figured it was in the works. It is quick and mostly painless to add another person or two to Admin, but when the current admin has no internet access it really causes a problem.
I think a dio in the MoM sounds like a great idea!

With the interest in dio's, what if we add a seperate contest for those?

Do we have enough "active" members to enter dio's?
