In the last year I retired and have been changing a few things I do and a few sites I visit. To make a short story long....I haven't been here much. I really like this site. I want to be here more often and I will be participating more.
My rant.....I have noticed the changes....IMHO...the one that disturbs me is the lack of comments to the people that post. I post because I think someone will enjoy looking at my build and that is pretty much the sole reason. I don't need the comments.
However, I worry that some older and the newer members will be discouraged from posting because of the lack of notice to what they post. (no comments and I am guilty of not leaving them) It is hard to always know what to say or take the time to comment. To that end; I am going to start using the "like" button as well as leaving comments. The button is quick and I believe shows the thread poster that I am willing to at least acknowledge the effort they put into creating a post.
Maybe I am all wrong. What do you think. Be honest. One thing I like about this forum is that is not a flame board. So I am interested in your opinion!!!!

Hey Robert, I am with you on this one. Please see my post in the Admin. section, "Some changes to TMM". I basically said what you did. I think the amount of posts go down during the Summer months, (although I can't prove that). I am hoping to see an increase, and it looks like there has been an increase in the last week or two. There was an issue with Bobby being able to update the board and the MoM pictures. David Sullivan has been very gracious and has volunteered to take over the board. He will inject new energy into the board. But you and I both said it Robert, members have to get involved in the board too! Log in, comment on others posts, offer some tips and techniques, enter and vote in MoM. PARTICIPATE!
I, for one, am looking forward to what the future has in store for The Mad Modeller! (Now I have to go and post some comments on some of the new threads....LOL).

Robert, I too have been as guilty if not more so than the rest about slacking off in participation. John is correct, most boards have seen a drop off during summer months. For me, a big reason for my absence has been a smart phone. Since I can check my email and do so much else on it, I do not get on my computer as much. That, and I do not build very much anymore. With getting promoted to lieutenant at work, my kids getting older and more active in their respective sports, I just do not have much free time. I am anticipating that some of this will change with taking over the helm of this board. I also believe that there is a declining trend of message boards across the internet. This I blame in large part on facebook, and to a lesser extent perhaps a waning infatuation with this format. I have also noticed a lot of people I used to see across the forums drop off completely, many times because of hurt feelings. Some tend to get their feelings hurt when they take a comment the wrong way. But that is one downfall to the internet in that without the personal interaction it can be hard to judge the intent of someone's comments. No way around that one, unfortunately. My hope is we are able to keep this place going for some time. I have some ideas for tweaking what we already have, but am always open for ideas and suggestions. One idea is to expand the Misc. category for those that build other than cars, even tho the main topic will remain automobiles as it always has. But the key has already been mentioned by you and John, participation is crucial.

Thanks to both of you for the comments! I was a bit concerned about posting my thoughts because of the possibility of hurt feelings. I did read the admin post. It is what prompted me to rant a bit.
Interestingly; running these sites and forums can be as much of a hobby as building. I use a forum format on my forum/site, but I don't have comments. It is more of a place to just post my builds of whatever strikes my fancy. I update it about twice per week. I monitor the number of viewings in a 24 hour period and so far I am happy. I do notice a lower summer trend.
Nothing on the 'net is static. I like the idea of an expanded MISC section, as I do military.
Congrats on the promotion to LT!!!!!!

I’m even happier to see you would like to post again. I will need some more specific information about the Fotki thing. Tim was having problems too. Although I am the Admin., I’m not a computer guy. I can go to ProBoards support site and ask for help but I will need to know exactly what is happening.

Now. I found that after you click create thread. right click on everything after that. Right click and the box comes up. click on almost anything on the list. Then it will go back to the cursor and you can go ahead with your post. Now, Ive been using postimage. When Im posting pics. Il go them in the order i want. if i mess one up. ill backspace and redo. Dont try to move the cursor back and redo in the middle of the post like u normally do or im pretty sure youll wipe everything out and have to start all over. Happened to me while trying to figure this out. Really hope this helps for now

OK, guys, I found the thread that Tim was talking about over on the ProBoards support site. I had a guy at work help me with the banner pic a few weeks ago. I will have him look at it tomorrow. I may figure it out here at home or I may screw things up even worse...lol.
Thanks to Tim for trying to get this taken care of!

Hi Eddie. Welcome back! Since photobucket pulled their crap back in 17, I'm using postimage as a photo host now. So far so good. It's pretty easy to figure out, and free right now. Basically you do the same thing to post pics from there like we did back then. Sign up, upload your pics into a folder, put your arrow up top of your pic, click on the triangle looking bar beside the trash can. Click on the folder at the end of the hotlink for forums. It'll copy, then paste to your post. I'm not good at tutorials. Hope this helps.
