1953 Ford Pickup Custom - updated 12/7

So here is the third 53 from the set. Resin chopped cab. Going custom with this one. Here's a stance of it more or less. Since I was in the paint booth working on the street machine version, I figure I'd paint this one too. Here's the paint scheme as well.

Worked early on this one so I can hit the hay early tonight. Think I'm catching a cold so I'm going to see if by getting a couple of extra hours of sleep will help. Seems like I got quite a bit done in a little amount of time.

First off, I gave the engine a wash and started adding flat black here and there. Added an aftermarket Magneto distro.



Did notch the frame a bit in the rear and slipped the axle under the leaf springs. In the front, I just flipped the axle. Checked clearance and tires going in place.






Last thing I worked on was the grille. Trying a little something. Took parts in first pic, de-chromed and modified to that. Now just need to chrome it.

I luv this custom one! Very clever job modifying the grille! I've not ever done of the older pickups, but have 3 (if memory serves) of that '53 Ford AMT kit. I hadn't noticed the length of the rear fenders. I wonder why they made them so long?! I do like the custom optional ones you're using. Good color body too, a nice change from the "candy" colors so common to the era's customs. Thanx!

Seems like with those '53 fords, the possibilities are endless. I really like the scallops on the lowrider. Great job !!!!

Thanks guys. Trying to build something different with the few skills I have is not the easiest. I'm pretty proud of it so far.

Had three kits and extra parts so I figured, let's do three different styles. Why not?!

Here is tonight's update. So the engines pretty much done. Needs the hose on the front which I will add once in place along with the radiator. Wires into the covers and painted the coil inside the alternator. Since modifying the front axle, the oil pan had to be modified to fit. De-chroming it at the moment to re chrome it.






Here's how the grille turned out after being rechromed. Not too bad.


Another test fit now that the wheels are in place. The floor pans look out of place in black. Should I change them to white? Blue? Purple?

Just a quick update. Needs a coat of clear to finalize the tailgate.

Finished up the bed. Used some tiny chain, #2 adapters and #2 lines. Added some rear red lenses from my parts box as well. Here are a few pics.
