A True Story.. Good friend of mine told me about these 3 model kits he bought back in the mid-sixties.. They were of obvious Japanese origin, and on the box each of them featured an American car from the late 50's, none of which had ever been released (at that time) as a kit. One was a '57 Chrysler, one was a '57 Buick, and I cannot recall what he said the third one was. In any case, he got them home, opened them up, and found... A block of wood, and a drawing showing each of the cars from the Front, Side and Rear. Apparently the idea was to simply carve off the parts of the wooden block that didn't look like a '57 Buick.. He swears that this is a true story...

Rocko, Evidently you have never seen any of the erly wooden model kits...that is exactly the way they were.
I never saw any of the 57 era "kits", most were "gone" in the mid 50's. I have had a 49 Ford, a Jeep, and...others, but.....
About all these wooden "kits" are good for is the box art.

I have the old "ACE" '49 Ford kit. That's basically what it is, a block of wood, but there are some simple trim parts, too. I also have some plans from Popular Mechanics magazine from the '40s. One set for a '47 Buick, and one for a '46 Studebaker. Cool stuff, but I don't know if I'll ever build them.
