This kit is a reissue of an old MPC kit that hasn't been around for a long time. Years ago(don't ask how many) I had built this model, but it been long since gone, I don't recall who the build went back the first time so I really cannot compare this one to that.
When I first opened the kit and saw how warped the 2 piece body was I packed it back up and set it back on the shelf were it's sat for almost a year. Finally I grabbed it and took a good look at it. With a bit of heat from a halogen work light I was able to straighten the body up enough to get the 2 halves glued together then I used some epoxy on the inside for extra strength.
Putting this kit together was a bit of a challenge because a good number of the mounting points were off and needed to be removed and/or modified to get the sub-assemblies built. I don't know if parts of the mold were missing and AMT substituted pieces from other molds, but I found mounting pins that weren't the same shape as the holes for example the mounting pin on the oil filter was square and the hole on the engine block was round. One other problem I found was that the instructions show a tab on the front axle that is not on it and if you mount the axle with out something to hold it up the body sets on the ground and the front wheels don't touch. I used a piece of brass tubing that I cut in half with a dremel and that was enough to see daylight under the body.
Other problems with this build were minor and all were fairly easy to fix. The chrome was a bit thick and chunky but still it was great to have this kit back again. This model has some flaws but it is still a great kit to build with a bit of work and test fitting everything it makes a very nice model. This kit isn't up to the standards of todays kits but remember the original issue of this kit was at least 15 to 20 years ago and maybe even more than that I can't remember for sure LOL
On a scale of 5 glue tubes I give this kit 3 glue tubes
