This is coming along awesome guys. Great independent suspension and Coopdad your bumpers are unreal. Nice so far guys. Gary did you pick a motor yet? Well I've considered all types of engines for this truck. Possible choices included a 454 Chevy, a 350 Chevy, an in-line 6 from the Tamiya Land Cruiser, the engine from the SSR Chevy truck, and a Buick turbo V6. The winner! Based on how the truck will be used and tire size, I've decided a built-up 350 Chevy small block will do the trick. Good torque engine that will produce about 450 horses using a single 4 barrel. I'll add headers, wires and looms, carb linkage and a really cool air cleaner. Expect a lot of Detail Master parts, cause you know that's my thing. ;D Comments?

Finished! ;D Got everything added, cleaned up, primed and ready to send. Gary, I will try to get the box to you before Friday. John p.s. nobody has mentioned the lack of rear bumper. I just could not find a good way to attach one. Not sure if the 1:1 truck is this way but the frame was tucked way up under the bed. I kinda like the clean look without it, though.

All I can say is wow Coop. This is one of if not the best scratchbuilt set of bars / bumpers I've ever seen. You really went above and beyond bud. Kudos to you. Great work.

nice tube work.. i know..i know.. everybody's waiting on me... sorry again.. rear end is done, needs to be touched up and installed. rear shocks are done just need clean up and decals, still need to do front shocks, drive shafts, and minor fender trimming. shouldnt be to much longer i promise. this frame is twisted a tiny bit, but it will go away when the bed is glued on. mopar1

I've been playing with some different small blocks at home to stuff into this Toy, but your right, the 350 in the new Nova kit looks sweet. I may pick the Nova up this weekend and donate it's motor to this project. Besides, I'd rather build the Nova with a 427 big block. (a little Tim Taylor "Grunt" here folks!)

Why the 6 banger guys? I would hate to see everyone beating their heads against the wall, mumbling "I could have had a V8!" ;D

Jason (Mopar 1)
I'm having a hard time trying to find the right words to describe the chassis of this beast. Fantastic comes to mind. Awesome is right up there too, but I think I'll stick with my favorite ....

Jason, I totally agree... sweeeeeeeet! I will tell you how I did the cage if you tell me how you did your leaf springs!!!! Awesome! I want a tutorial the day after your parts hit the mail.
As hard as the bumper was to build, the cage was the opposite. I have started using (2.5mm/.093") tube rather than rod for the cages. It bends SOOOO easy with your fingers and being hollow I push florist wire up in to help it hold its shape. If you look closely at the cages you will see it sticking out the bottom. The wire also serves as locating pins in the floors.

funny thing is.. of all the functional suspension ive done..good old leafs are by far the easiest and best working. you have full control over weight capacity, size, and amount of movement. Everything else, you are at the mercy of the springs you can find. after this truck, ill put a tutorial up.. i think i did one on suspension period..but ill do one on leafs.
also, its not that i want a 6 banger per say.. i just think the SBC is to common. but im sure itll be sweet..

No one has ever answered with what are we doing after the model is finished? Are we giving it away? Are we selling it? Would like to know.

What do you think of ebaying it and donating the proceeds to a kids model building charity (if there is such a thing)? Jhn

I'm not sure about model building charities? I've heard of high schools and middle schools having their own model building clubs. I think it's a cool idea. I'd like to bid on it so keep us informed.

ya, sounds cool.. maybe put it in a few shows to see if it can win any ribbons to go with it.. any charity for children is fine with me.. even if it has nothing to do with modeling. I should have it in the mail by this weekend, so i need your address gary.. I know iknow... i couldve built a real truck in the time ive spent on this (probably be easier too)

I know it took forever, but I dropped it off at the post office today.. looking foward to seeing an engine drop into it. no pics with the drive shafts, because i left the case and shafts uninstalled to give you freedom on engine placement... so i have to wait to see it with the shafts in also. mopar1

It's here and sitting in the middle of my workbench. Beautiful work Jason. The working suspension is fantastic and so smooth.
I must exalt you on a job well done.
NNL East this weekend so I'll be getting started on my leg of it on Sunday night.
I wish my motor build will equal the quality work put into this chassis.
