Toad stickers, ...... it's Goooooood! Just opened the grill up so you'll be able to see the Detail Master Electric Fan when installed. Just evenly took off enough plastic with a 1/2" sanding drum, and inverted cone dental bit, chucked in my battery operated Dremels. A little finish sanding and we're good to go.

We are getting there! The motor has been mostly assembled and installed in the chassis. Drive shafts have been installed. Plug wires are finished. I'll try to get the carb finished up tomorrow and get the air cleaner on.

John, my skills are not there yet either but I'm in on it. I will send you the interior to work on for the Toyota. I don't know where you and John are getting your information, but I feel your both top notch builders. Can't wait to see it in paint.
John, are you the man doing the interior? Welcome aboard. If you are in need of any Detail Master items for the interior, just let me know.

Whooooaaaaa Nelly! Back that train up. I don't have the time right now for this project. I want to stay in the spectators stand on this one. Thank you for the invite, but I publicly and emphatically say no-can-do! (Besides, I don't want to make you all look bad, J/K )

Well the 4x4 made it to meeting night, but not into Bobby's hands. I still have a bit of work to do on it.We were missing a couple from the meeting last night. Hope your feeling better Nacho Z. I think you just didn't want to face us after turning down the interior invite for this project. Will decided to ditch us and go watch the Penguins kick butt. OK, I'll accept that one ...... going into game 7 baby!
Later guys.

I don't want to go too OT but here is a quick update. Got some kind of crud that has been going on for a week. Actually took today off and trying to take it easy. I hated missing the meeting but just felt to lousy to come.
The pickem-up is looking great. Keep up the good work!

Hey Gary, keep the progress pics coming. Looking great so far guys. This is why I don't get in on these builds....my skills are not there yet. NachoZ's comment got me thinking... what is it that he means by "skills are not there yet"? I mean, I don't think my skills are up to Gary's either. I often see builds that I think are so much better than mine and wonder what guys like Gary do differently that I need to do to be at their skill level. #1 Does he have more practice doing motors than me? (yes) #2 Is it that he has access to tools/materials/aftermarket that I don't? #3 Are my techniques (painting for instance) based on what I assumed was correct when I first picked up a paintbrush almost 40 years ago? (Does he airbrush everything? I don't airbrush anything...in fact, I am using the same paint brushes I bought 15 years ago.) I am guessing all three. #1 is easy... "just do it" (keep building and the experience will come). #2 I think as I watch WIPs and ask "dumb" questions I will learn about tools and materials #3. this is the tough one. I am not sure technique can be shown via the web, I think it needs to be in person. I mean I know what "works for me" but what "works for Gary probably different and is obviously better. I think I learned the most from, besides trial and error, by seeing other's work in person. I am wondering if us that want to improve need a Back to the Absolute Basics thread. I wonder if anyone would even read a thread that basic... how to glue with CA might not have any views because everyone "knows how to glue." I want to know how to glue and paint like Gary! Sorry for my highjack. John

;D '78 Porsche 928 ;D I just wanted to post some photos of my '78 Porsche 928. Back when I was in my teens, this was my dream car. It's a Revell kit, built box stock. The paint is Testors Brown. Check these out. So why am I showing you this build, and why am I posting it here? Well next week is my 25th anniversary, and this model was finished right before I got married, probably the last model I built as a single man. 25 years of model building has passed, and I now have at least 40 more builds under my belt. That's 25 years of improving my skills and learning different techniques. In that time I learned what "primer" was, bought my first airbrush, built my first cardboard box spray-booth, and even discovered that nail polish makes good paint. Too bad I didn't discover the airbrush before the nail polish. Have you ever painted a model with that little nail polish brush? Well I did. So what's my point here? I'm no God, I'm no guru, and I too wish I could machine parts like Augie, build models like Jim Drews Grand Sport, and detail models like Ken Hamilton. I'm not there yet, but someday I could be. Just keep building, making the next model better then your last. How do you like that shine on this porsche? I think my paint has improved a little. My main focus in building is this, and if you always remember this one thing, your future models will be better than they ever were. [glow=red,2,300]"Build every part as if it were a model in it self". [/glow] Can't go wrong there. If anyone has any questions, I'm always here to help. FYI: this Porsche dream car is still only a dream. ..... someday. Hey Gary, keep the progress pics coming. Looking great so far guys. Gary, I did not mean to put you out there but I figured you would be a good example... if we want to improve (not just wish), we need to examine our work (and other's) and work to continually improve it. Even if it means trying difference ways to do the things we have done the same for 25 years or asking dumb questions like "is there a better way to glue?"
I love talking about the philosophy and technique of model building as much as building itself.
Your advise about building one part as if it was a model is great advice that I have just figured out myself. Never heard anyone say that. John

Your advise about building one part as if it was a model is great advice that I have just figured out myself. Never heard anyone say that. John Works for me.Maybe we should try this. Who's up for it? Lets all build 1 seat for an upcoming model. I don't care if it's a standard car seat, a racing seat, a truck seat, or a rat-rod seat, just build a seat as if it were a model in itself.
Example:Let's open up a new folder to post photos on.

My names Gary. ....... (everybody) "Hi Gary!" ..... and I'm a slacker. It's been a week since I've touched the 4x4 but I made some progress tonight. Here is the radiator sized to fit the Toyota, and the modified Detail Master fan. I'll get these parts painted tomorrow night, along with the carb.

I'm back .......
Spent the last 9 days on vacation. With over 1700 miles logged on the 4Runner, we hit Boston, a Red Sox Game, Salem, NewYork City, 2 shows, and spent our final days at Bethany Beach. I am burnt. Glad to be home ....!
I promise to finish up the 4x4 in the next 2 weeks and get everything in Bobbys hands.
I've got a lot of posts to get caught up on so I'd better get going.
Later .....
